POSITION SUMMARY
The Certified Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for working up the patient, assisting the doctor, and performing diagnostic testing.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
include the following:
Works up patients, to including but not limited to, initial chief complaint, history and pretesting and diagnostic testing
Assists physicians with procedures
Assists physicians with documentation in the EMR and paper charts.
Perform all the duties in the job description of an Ophthalmic Scribe as needed
Maintains exam rooms including stocking and cleaning
Checks and stocks travel bags and equipment for satellites
Assists with maintaining and ordering medical supplies and equipment calibration and maintenance
Travels to satellite locations as needed
Performs other duties as assigned
Provides on-going training of Patient Care Assistants
Maintains knowledge of and follows policies, procedures, Code of Conduct, and all Federal and state rules and regulations related to the position.
Attends all required compliance trainings.
Sterilization of equipment
Perform patient check-in and check-out functions noted in the Patient Service Representative job description as needed to provide coverage for the front desk
Completes all required compliance training.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required. Knowledge of anatomy of the eye, ocular conditions and ocular imaging equipment
Ability to: measure visual acuity in children and adults, assess pupillary function, assess extraocular muscle status, refract the patient and perform a basic slit lamp exam
Able to use the following equipment: auto-refractor, tonometry, manual and automated lensometer, automated and manual visual fields, OCT, pachymeter, corneal topography, Fundus camera, B-Scan ultrasonography and biometric instruments including IOLMaster, A-Scan ultrasonography.
Ability to hold patients in position during procedures
Ability to assist in procedure room including knowledge of instrument used
Good problem solving and decision-making skills
Good interpersonal and customer service skills
Good dexterity
Good computer skills including use of standard office programs
Ability to work well under pressure and accept additional assignments willingly
Ability to maintain positive attitude and talk confidently about patient results
Ability to work flexible hours as needed to accommodate workload
Ability to perform tasks in a timely manner
Ability to speak, read, and write in English
Ability to pleasantly and effectively communicate both orally and in writing
Ability to operate standard office equipment
Ability to concentrate, think, and learn
Ability to hear, see, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, lift, push, and pull.



EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or equivalent is required; a minimum of one (1) year ophthalmic clinical experience is required; Certified Ophthalmic Technician is required; experience with electronic health records is preferred.
