Essential Responsibilities: This description of job responsibilities is intended to reflect the major responsibilities and duties of the job, but is not intended to describe minor duties or other responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.
1.
Serves as the administrator of the Health System’s safety event reporting system. Reviews all reported safety events, conducting medical record reviews when necessary. Assigns event investigations to appropriate leadership for review and follow-up, ensuring follow-up is timely and complete. Closes the event submission upon completion. Follows up with team members and/or complainant when appropriate.

Maintains the integrity and confidentiality of the safety event reporting system.

Investigates risk exposures through regular review of reported safety events, medical record review and interviews of team members and/or medical staff when appropriate, preparation of risk summaries and reports, coordination with multiple clinical and professional departments to resolve risk issues, and consultation with the Manager of Risk Management.

Collaborates with Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Departments on safety events to identify risk exposures or trends and to prevent claims and mitigate future occurrences. Represents Risk Management during formal event reviews led by Quality Improvement and/or Patient Safety as directed by Manager, Risk Management.

Collaborates with Patient Experience Department on certain customer complaints involving potential risk exposures. Conducts clinical reviews as requested by Patient Experience and routinely meets with Patient Experience to facilitate resolution of issues in a timely manner.

Promotes Risk Management initiatives throughout Southeast Georgia Health System. Coordinates the resolution of issues related to Risk Management Policies, Procedures, DNV and other regulatory bodies. Provides risk management assessment of processes, procedures and programs, and serves as a liaison between Health System staff and the Manager, Risk Management.

Collects, evaluates, and maintains data concerning events, claims, and other risk related occurrences as applicable. Conducts and prepares clinical reviews for claims and assists the Manager, Risk Management in obtaining and preserving clinical evidence as applicable.

Investigates and analyzes root causes, patterns or trends that could result in compensatory or serious safety events. For potentially compensable events as determined by the Risk Manager, performs immediate investigation, prepares necessary report(s), and works with Patient Safety Manager and Risk Manager to facilitate a root cause analysis in a timely manner.
8.
Develops weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports on reported/identified patient safety events. Provides reports on risk trends as requested.
9.
Actively participates in committees related to risk management, patient safety, and/or quality improvement.
10.
Coordinates and assists with risk management projects as assigned.
11.
Provides education on risk management topics as needed, requested and/or assigned.
