Summary: This position is responsible for implementing the strategic plan of the Southeast Georgia Health System Foundation to enlist annual, major, and planned gifts to support Health System initiatives. This position also plans, organizes, and directs Health System fund raising efforts, creating campaigns and programs to meet capital expenditures and ongoing un-reimbursed costs of the hospital. This position will manage all Foundation Office staff. All team members of Southeast Georgia Health System will promote a culture of safety, follow established policies, and adhere to all state and federal regulatory requirements, Joint Commission requirements, and national patient safety standards.

Service Excellence: All team members of Southeast Georgia Health System will promote service excellence by developing and maintaining positive relationships with customers, other team members, and the medical staff and will ensure the highest quality of care by performing their responsibilities according to the highest professional standards.

Essential Responsibilities

Strategic Plan

  • Implements the Foundations’ strategic plan to include all related policies and programs.
  • Develops and recommends goals and objectives for Foundation fund raising, implementing campaigns, techniques and department policies to achieve such goals.
  • Evaluates Foundation’s performance in relation to established goals and implements changes to improve services

Campaigns

  • Designs and implements fundraising campaigns using direct mail, personal solicitation, benefit events, involvement of business organizations, appeals to philanthropic organizations and planned giving through estate planning, bequests, trusts, etc.

Solicitation

  • Develops, implements, and coordinates solicitation activities with administration, medical staff, board members, and volunteers, and may at times directly solicit gifts.

Donors

  • Identifies and cultivates corporate, foundation, and individual donor prospects as well as fosters ongoing donor relationships to maintain and increase their level of giving.
  • Develops rapport with existing and potential donors to discuss estate-planning options with financial advisors, accountants and attorneys. Suggests specific SGHS programs and medical or research needs that could be addressed through gifts.
  • Provides reports and information to key prospects and donors through newsletters, mailings and hospital updates.

Gifts

  • Ensures receipt, acknowledgment and allocation of gifts according to the requirements of the IRS and the donor.
  • Conducts research and maintains records on gift potential of foundations, corporations and individuals.
  • Researches and submits proposals for grants and special funding.

Marketing

  • Responsible for Foundation’s marketing, informing the public of the Southeast Georgia Health Systems Foundation’s mission, vision, and accomplishments, both personally and via communications material distributed by the Foundation.
  • Serves as primary spokesperson for the Foundation - the “voice of the community” fostering community partnership building.
  • Develops and designs letterheads, correspondence, brochures and other materials to solicit gifts in collaboration with Public Relations.
  • Organizes and attends fundraising benefits for the Foundation, assisting sponsoring agencies with campaigns and functions.

Regulatory

  • Evaluates changing trends in philanthropy, tax, and estate planning regulations to develop new programs responsive to the fund-raising needs of the health system.

Departmental Responsibilities

  • Coordinates all meetings and functions of the Board of Directors and oversees secretarial duties during Board meetings.
  • Selects, trains/orients, and assigns department staff. Develops standards of performance, evaluations performance and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions.
  • Establishes and implements policies and procedures for department operations.
  • Develops and recommends department’s operating budget and ensures department operates within budget.
  • Directs the preparation and maintenance of department reports; prepares periodic reports for senior management as required

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in health care related field, such as, marketing, advertising or public relations

Experience: Prefer five (5) years of previous experience in fund raising or in Health Care related area

Licensure: None

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    • Must have an understanding of philanthropy at the community level.
    • Requires organizational abilities and detailed management skills required to create and maintain systems control, including regulatory and legal matters.
    • Must be able to manage multiple projects.
    • Must have a working knowledge of word processing.
