What you will do:
- Responsible for performing a variety of chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests, procedures, and related duties. Specific duties include:
- performing proficiency testing in the same manner as patient samples;
- exercising independent judgment to perform and report findings proficiently for clinical laboratory tests to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease;
- participating in compliance of accreditation and regulatory standards (CAP, CLIA 88, GDHR) which relate to all areas of the laboratory;
- assisting with special projects (health fairs, correlations) and in training phlebotomists and MT/MLT students;
- using quality control samples to verify accuracy and precision of test results and adhering to laboratory policies;
- following laboratory procedures for specimen collection, labeling, handling, transport, and processing;
- performing instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance as required or indicated;
- performing test procedures, identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results, and correcting problems or seeking guidance from the Director/Manager of Laboratory Services, Laboratory Medical Director, Team Coordinator, or designee for problem resolution;
- reporting and maintaining laboratory results utilizing written procedure and policy guidelines; and
- operating all computer systems and functions associated with them to include order entry, resulting, error correction, and applicable billing and auditing processes.
Position Requirements:
The position requires a Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, or closely related field.
- The qualified candidate must have at least 2 years (24 months) of experience in a medical technologist position, or closely related occupation in the healthcare industry.
- The qualified candidate must also have at least 2 years (24 months) of experience with all of the following: (a) collecting biological specimens from patients and ensuring they are viable / correct in volume; (b) conducting physical and chemical analysis of body fluids, including blood, urine, or spinal fluid, and analyzing laboratory findings to determine presence of normal or abnormal components; (c) performing serological, bacteriological, biochemical, hematological laboratory examinations and tests for use in the treatment and diagnosis of disease; (d) correlating results with patient diagnosis, previous results (delta checking), calibration controls and machines; (e) performing daily quality control of reagents and proper calibration of machines, and maintaining medical laboratory equipment.
- All experience may be gained concurrently.
