What are the responsibilities and job description for the ASL World Language Teacher position at Southeast High School?
LOCATION: Southeast, Springfield, Lanphier High Schools (potentially traveling positions)
CONTRACT PERIOD: 180 day school calendar for 2025-2026
REPORT TO: Building Principal
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Valid Illinois Professional Educator’s License with a high school endorsement
2. Demonstrate proficiency in ASL in an interview or provide test scores of 3 on ASLPI
or intermediate for SLPI
3. Experience or willingness to collaborate with other teachers.
4. Provide accessible learning opportunities for all students while teaching ASL and
Deaf culture
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for passionately providing instruction in the field of American Sign
Language; utilizing the curriculum provided by District 186, promoting student progress,
and managing a safe positive classroom environment.
2. Use technology as a means to support the work of teachers and students.
3. Cooperate in carrying out school district rules and regulations.
4. Provide differentiated instruction.
5. Implement best practice instructional strategies to support content areas.
6. Willingness to empower students with diverse learning needs to reach their full potential.
7. Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the world language
instructional philosophy and congruent with the course curriculum.
8. Assess and monitor student progress, providing feedback and support to help students
achieve their learning goals.
9. Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices
in ASL, as a special interest group under world languages, and Deaf culture.
10.Perform any other duties as assigned by the World Language Instructional Supervisor,
Department Chair, or appropriate Administrator.
