Overview
Mercy Hospital Southeast OR includes: General Surgery, 2 DaVinci Xis, Urology, Plastics, Gyn, Orthopedic, Neurosurgery and Cardiothoracic surgery.
Periop 101 through AORN is offered for new registered nurses.
Our staff provides a comforting environment for patients that are undergoing a surgical procedure. We work alongside Preop staff, Anesthesia providers, Surgeons and recovery staff to safely provide care to patients needing an operation.
As nurses, we train on the equipment being used, proper positioning and prepping of the patient, and documentation of the patient record. There is opportunity to cross-train and/or advance to scrub or First Assist in the cases as well.

Hi, my name is Sheila Ries and I'm the Nurse Manager of Orthopedics at Mercy St. Louis. We are a 37 bed orthopedic unit. We see patients with total joint replacements, orthopedic traumas, hip fractures, we recently incorporated our bariatric surgeries and we also see medical overflow, since we are in the Med Surg service line. We have about 80 coworkers total. Our ratios for nurses are one to five. The PCA ratios are one to eight. We have a great variety of seniority ranging from graduate nurses all the way up to 45 year experience. We have about 20 coworkers with 10 plus years of experience so I always like to highlight that We are a fast-paced unit. A lot of admissions and discharges. With being a surgical population they all go home the next day. We also have a great relationship with our PTs and OTs. We have amazing teamwork between all of our coworkers and we would love for you all to apply and be part of our team.

Qualifications
- Education: Graduated from an accredited school of nursing.
- Licensure: Is personally responsible for obtaining, and maintaining, a current RN license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure in which nursing duties are performed and must meet all state board of nursing requirements.
- Experience: 1 year of RN OR experience
- Certifications: Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association or successful completion of course within 30 days of hire.
