The incumbent in this position supervises Maintenance Repairer 2, Maintenance Repairer 1, and Trades Apprentice positions.
The incumbent receives general supervision from the Maintenance Superintendent.

Supervise, train, and evaluate Maintenance Repairers 2, Maintenance Repairers 1, and Trades Apprentices to ensure high-quality workmanship and adherence to safety protocols. Assign daily tasks, work orders, and projects based on team skills and workload. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members. Plan, coordinate, and oversee HVAC installation, maintenance, and repair projects to ensure timely completion and adherence to quality standards. Monitor progress on jobs and adjust schedules or assignments as needed to maintain efficiency. Investigate and document any workplace incidents or hazards.
Attend inspections and meetings with other agencies or entities on construction projects. Helps provide oversight on projects where a contractor or contractors have been hired to perform repairs or maintenance of the HVAC systems.
Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with blueprints, specifications, and industry standards. Troubleshoot complex HVAC and refrigeration system issues, providing advanced technical solutions. Maintain work records, including job completion reports, timesheets, and inventory usage. Assist with hiring decisions, employee evaluations, and disciplinary actions as needed. Coordinate with other departments, contractors, and vendors to ensure seamless HVAC operations.

Performs major and advanced repairs on all types of heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC). Independently diagnoses the HVAC problem, take necessary actions to repair, replace or maintain HVAC equipment in OLD facilities which encompasses the Safe House, Administration Building, structures within the warehouse containing HVAC equipment, and components of complex structures containing HVAC equipment. Position serves in lead worker capacity when working with contractors or other trades personnel working for the OLD to accomplish inspections, maintenance and repairs to HVAC equipment.
Performs Highly Specialized Electrical Power Installations, Such As
Operates, regulates and adjusts domestic and hot water boilers, circulating pumps, chillers, and refrigeration systems associated with building operation. Regulates flow and starts/stops pumps, chillers, hot water systems, etc., associated with HVAC and refrigeration systems. Conducts air balancing in HVAC distribution systems.
Oversee the installation, repair, alteration, maintenance, and control of refrigeration, heating, ventilating and cooling systems.
Assigns and inspects the work of journeyman HVAC Mechanics, HVAC Mechanic Assistants and Apprentices.

Performs periodic preventative maintenance on equipment to provide required inspection, lubrication and adjustments. Processes include amping motors, adding refrigerant, adjusting controls, changing and cleaning filters, calibrating thermostats and cleaning coils.
Responds to emergency calls from staff wherein response includes checking thermostats, checking dampers, checking power to equipment resetting breakers, etc.

Performs daily inspections of equipment, logs chillers and other HVAC equipment. Responsible for all tools and supplies assigned.

SLFPA-E is an emergency-oriented agency. Part of the SLFPA-E’s mission is to protect the residents of the east-bank of Jefferson Parish, St. Bernard Parish and the east-bank of Orleans Parish from tidal surge, wind-driven water and river flooding.
In emergencies during Mississippi River flooding and Hurricane / Tropical Storm events, the incumbent will be on call and must report for duty if so required, remaining on duty in such situations until released from duty by the Appointing Authority.
