The Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East (SLFPA-E) operates the regional flood control system and associated facilities in St. Bernard Parish, the east-bank of Orleans Parish, and the east-bank of Jefferson Parish within its control to protect lives and property from tidal flooding by natural weather events.
The Maintenance Repairer—2 is responsible for maintaining the levee system, levee structures, floodgates, and floodwalls. All work must conform to Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East (SLFPA-E) policies and procedures, including accepted safety practices. The incumbent may receive job assignments and specific instructions from a foreman, leader, or other supervisor or agency official of a higher classification.
The position performs at the experienced level. Tasks may be performed at OLD headquarters or on-site within Orleans, East Jefferson, and St. Bernard Parishes.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or as a parks building and grounds attendant; OR
Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering; OR
Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses.

Examples of Work
Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To, The Following
25% Ensure the operational ability of each floodgate. This inspection is performed regularly and will include the following:
25% Provides carpentry, concrete, and masonry services in repairing and maintaining concrete floodwalls and metal sheet pile walls. May be responsible for levee repair work including signage replacement, ramp improvements, repairing burrowing holes, trash pick-ups along the system, and other duties that are assigned to the special projects crew.
10% Incumbent will coordinate work assignments and training for the staff, i.e., Maintenance Repairer 1’s, Trades Apprentices, Laborers, assigned to the Maintenance Division.
10% Perform general repairs to SLFPAE facilities, including but not limited to plumbing, carpentry, electrical, flooring, mechanical, painting and other related fields.
5% Drive vehicles on and off the levee system as part of daily duties and will assist in flood fighting during emergency situations, including filling and stacking sandbags, loading and/or unloading trailers and any other duties assigned during emergency situations.
The incumbent will perform any and all other duties as required or assigned by other higher-ranking supervisors, directors or administrative personnel.

The Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority - East (SLFPA-E) is an emergency-oriented agency. Part of the SLFPAE's mission is to protect the residents of the east-bank of Jefferson Parish, St. Bernard and the east-bank of Orleans from tidal surge, wind-driven water and river flooding. In emergencies during Mississippi River flooding and Hurricane/Tropical storm events, the incumbent will be on call and must report for duty if so required, and remain on duty in such situations until released from duty by the Appointing Authority.
