Yard Jockey

JOB SUMMARY: Provide customer service by shuttling tankers to and from customers' receiving bays. Aid

assistance to receivers, manage SMI trailer wash tags and AG stickers, including inspecting trailers for correct

paperwork, seals, and damage.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Recent class A or B experience & license required; and must have acceptable MVR.
• Tanker endorsement
• A high school diploma or general education diploma (GED).
• Must be able to work early or late hours, weekends, and major holidays.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Call and communicate to dispatch at the start and end of every shift.
• Do not end your shift until relief has arrived.
• Transmit the yard/load sheet at the beginning, middle, and end of each shift as requested by
  
  
  

management or Dispatch.

• Report rejected loads to dispatch ASAP.
• Report any plant shutdowns to dispatch immediately.
• Immediately report any mechanical or safety issues to dispatch and Transportation Management.
• Proficient and functional with hand-held SMI Trucking computer database and other electronic
  
  
  

systems.

• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections for yard tractors/tractors.
• Shuttle and scale both full and empty tankers from the plant yard to the receiving bay and back in a safe and effective manner.
• Review and check all trailer wash tags for accuracy.
• Report by phone and email to dispatch any missing wash tags, as soon as it is noticed.
• Maintain an empty trailer list.
• Maintain and clean workspace and equipment every shift.
• Other related duties as assigned.
  
  
  

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Frequently stand, carry/push/lift to 50 lbs. Balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach a level of 8
  
  
  

feet and climb up to 10 feet.

• May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time and demonstrate manual dexterity
  
  
  

while performing job duties.

• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision,
  
  
  

depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

• The employee will be occasionally exposed to twisting of the back and neck.
• The employee will continuously stand, walk, handle, talk, see, and hear.
  
  
  

ENVIRONMENT:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions
  
  
  

and is regularly exposed to cold and extreme heat.

• The employee will occasionally be exposed to loud noise, slippery floor surfaces, cluttered floor
  
  
  

surface, hazardous equipment (mechanical moving parts), contact with sharp objects, contact with

skin irritants, toxic exposure, nuisance dust, fumes, sprays, and hazardous cleaning solutions.
