Southeast Missouri State University's Marketing and Communications department is seeking a skilled and creative Web Developer. The Web Developer will be responsible for designing, coding, and modifying websites from layout to function, ensuring a seamless user experience. This role requires a combination of programming skills, an eye for design, and an understanding of user experience.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain SEMO's website, ensuring a consistent look and feel across all pages
Write well-designed, testable, and efficient code by using best software development practices
Create website layouts and user interfaces using standard HTML / CSS practices, integrating data from various back-end services and databases, and ability to write clean, maintainable code
Collaborate with designers, content creators, and other stakeholders to match visual design intent
Optimize websites for maximum speed and scalability
Ensure website functionality and stability across devices (desktop, mobile, tablet) and browsers
Conduct website testing and debugging to ensure high-quality performance and technical health
Provide ongoing website maintenance and stay up-to-date on emerging technologies and industry trends to apply them to operations and activities
Enthusiastically collaborate with team members to achieve University goals, create effective campaigns, and elevate the SEMO brand
Required Qualifications
Proven experience as a web developer with a strong portfolio of successful web projects
Experience with front-end development web programming languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Velocity and with frontend frameworks / libraries
Experience with back-end languages and frameworks such as PHP, Python, and Node.js
Knowledge of content management systems (CMS) like Cascade
Knowledge of web analytics and tracking tools like Google Analytics
Knowledge of responsive web design, user-experience design, and cross-browser compatibility
Knowledge of SEO principles
Knowledge of web accessibility standards as described in WCAG 2.0
Understanding of databases (SQL / NoSQL) and experience with version control systems
Familiarity with web security principles
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
