What are the responsibilities and job description for the Heavy Equipment & Diesel Mechanic position at Southeast Pipe?
Summary: Seeking experienced fleet diesel and heavy equipment mechanic proficient in all aspects of diagnostics and repair of commercial trucks class 3-8 and associated equipment. Position is day shift M-F with occasional overtime when equipment demand requires it.
GENERAL TASKS:
- Troubleshoot diagnose and repair vehicles utilizing diagnostic computer software and other specialized equipment related to the field.
- Inspect brake systems, steering components, wheel bearings, and other important systems to ensure the safety and proper operating condition of equipment.
- Use hand tools, pressure gauges, and precision instruments as well as power tools, pneumatic equipment, welders, and other associated tools found in a repair shop environment.
- Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment per manufactures specifications.
- Test drive trucks and equipment to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure proper functionality after repairs have been compleeted.
- Raise trucks and other heavy equipment using hydraulic jacks and hoists
- rebuild both gas and diesel engines

- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Vocational training and on the job experience
- 3-5 years of relevant on the job training in lieu of formal training
REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- High school diploma or G.E.D.

- Repairing- Repairing machines or systems using the needed tools

- Equipment Maintenance- Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when additional repairs may be needed.
- Quality Control Analysis- Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
- Deductive Reasoning- The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
- Extend Flexibility- The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and /or legs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Employees must frequently lift light to heavy objects, occasionally climb ladders and use tools requiring a high degree of dexterity and be able to distinguish between shades of color.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is typically performed in a shop environment but can also be performed outdoors when needed. Employee is exposed to noise, dirt, dust, grease, irritating chemicals, and machinery with moving parts. The work may require the use of personal protective equipment PPE such as hearing and eye protection, as well as skin protection when exposure to certain lubricants and chemicals common in a repair facility.
