Job Description
Job Title: Administrative Assistant (211 Days)
Hours: 8:00am-4:30pm M-F
Location: Mitchellville Elementary
Qualifications:
- Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent required, advanced degree preferred.
- Strong aptitude for computer software, database management and overall technology concepts.
- Ability to relate successfully with students, staff, families, and the community; and adhere to confidentiality in all situations.
- Ability to maintain accurate records, filing systems, and organize varied tasks effectively while paying close attention to detail.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and to complete responsibilities as scheduled.
Reports to: Building Principal
Job Goal:
To maintain accurate student records and an efficient, well-run office for all students; while supporting the building principals and staff.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Maintain student records.
- Receive student attendance calls from parents.
- Assist students as they sign in and out.
- Encourage students to report each hour absence.
- Call parents as necessary regarding concerns with student absence.
- Provide enrollment reports: monthly, quarterly, annual; at the direction of the Principal or Assistant Principals
- Gather information and type reports as directed.
- General secretarial duties.
- Obtain homework assignments for absent students.
- Handle paper work for suspensions, including typing.
- Provide an appropriate role model for the students.
- Maintain confidentiality on sensitive information.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:
- Must be capable of sitting throughout the work day.
- Must present appropriate appearance and personal cleanliness suited to working in close proximity to students and adults.
- Must be able to work with interruptions during a work shift.
- Must be capable of working with students with different personalities, capabilities, and physical and mental limitations.
- Must be capable of working in a noisy environment.
- May be required to stand occasionally throughout the day or during school events.
- Must be capable occasionally of lifting up to 50 pounds to waist level.
- Must be capable occasionally of carrying 25 pounds at waist level for a distance of 100 feet.
Note: The physical demands described above represent real life tasks an employee may need to perform as part of the essential functions of this job. While the frequency may be low, the above stated physical demands may be required during the course of a daily work shift. Tasks that have physical demands that exceed the above stated limits should only be performed with sufficient manpower or material handling equipment.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of Southeast Polk Board Policy.
Terms of Employment:
1. 211-day position (Additional days upon Principal’s discretion)
2. Hourly wage to be determined by district administration.
