What are the responsibilities and job description for the Enrichment Instructor - Simi position at Southeast Ventura County YMCA?
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Youth Instructor maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in enrichment classes as well as relates to students, parents and staff in a positive and professional manner at all times.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Plan and lead youth at least 1 -2 fitness/recreation classes, including developing lesson plans that encompass the Core Values and skill content into each lesson plan, implementing effective teaching methods, and instructing class to the ability level of the student(s) participating.
- Responsible for administering professional and effective program-specific skills according to course description and/or curriculum.
- Help children manage behavior using a positive approach, including redirection and using constructive discipline with natural and logical consequences.
- Interact, initiate and encourage the children in the activities during class.
- Address children who are not performing exercises/activities correctly by demonstrating proper form techniques.
- Encourage member involvement with children, parents and/or school as well as identify potential volunteers.
- Respond promptly and courteously to all member inquiries/needs.
- Provide feedback to parents and/or school personnel regarding their child/children's participation and behavior in the program.
- Set up and monitor class equipment, ensuring equipment remains in working condition. Report all equipment repair needs to supervisor immediately.
- Maintain close supervision of children at all times, ensuring children are directly supervised at all times.
- Advise participants on program and class procedures and policies, as appropriate.
- Distribute handouts and/or class evaluations, if appropriate, and answer questions from participants after each session.
- Maintains records as required (attendance, assessments, progress reports).
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
- Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting and risk management.
- Performs other job-related duties as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- CPR and First Aid Certification must be maintained and current at all times.
- Minimum of 18 years of age.
- Knowledge and expertise in specific enrichment area that is being taught.
- Ability to work and interact with a diverse group of people.
- Ability to listen and speak to communicate with children and their parents.
- All required online trainings must be completed before starting work, which will be compensated for accordingly.
- Criminal record clearance.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift minimum of 25 pounds.
- Ability to see and supervise children.
- The physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
