- Ensures that practice time is sufficient for all students to learn skills
- Follow logical skill progressions
- Foster personal growth, personal safety, stroke development, and fun during each swim lesson.
- Recognizes and corrects improper strokes or skills using positive feedback
- Communicates effectively with students in a patient, friendly manner
- Show how you are a positive role model
"OK, I'm sold!" What do I need to qualify?
- Must be 16 or older
- Current YMCA Swim Lesson or Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification or complete Southeast Ventura County YMCA Swim Instructor Training before teaching first lesson.
- Ability to swim 50 yds/m freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke with correct technique.
- Other Current Certifications:
- CPR PRO/AED/First Aid from one of the following certifying organizations:
- American Red Cross
- American Heart Association
- American Safety & Health Institute
- CPR PRO/AED/First Aid from one of the following certifying organizations:
- Ability to communicate effectively to swimmers and their parents/guardians.
- Ability to plan, lead and participate in swim lesson activities.
- Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.
- Ability to see and supervise children.
- Ability to spend 2-4 hours in the water at a time.
- Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
- Sufficient strength and ability to react to emergency situations in an indoor and/or outdoor environment
