What are the responsibilities and job description for the Health Professions Simulation Technician position at Southeastern Community College?
The Health Professions Simulation Technician will provide technical and operational support for the SCC Clinical Simulation Center to ensure participants and Simulation Center customers receive quality services in simulated medical education and training. Coordinates and assists with simulation-related activities including scheduling, set-up, maintenance, ordering of supplies, IT assistance, and working directly with Health Professions students, faculty, staff, and Simulation and IT Technician.
This position is a full-time position (261 day contract) with an annual starting salary of $43,888.

The Health Professions Simulation Technician will abide by the employment contract and relevant policies and guidelines of the Board of Trustees.
Essential Duties Summary
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Commitment to Southeastern Community College’s mission, vision, values, and goals.
- Provide excellent customer service to faculty instructors, participants, clients, visitors, and employees of the Clinical Simulation Center through positive, respectful, and professional communication via conversation, phone, or email.
- Develop technical proficiency with all aspects of the operation, maintenance, support, troubleshooting, and repair for all equipment.
- Perform orientation of new SCC faculty and students to the use and care of task trainers, simulators, and the facility capabilities to support a positive and safe learning experience.
- Demonstrate and teach technical aspects of operating simulators to faculty members and others.
- Assist with the operation and programming of the simulators for training sessions when required.
- Direct hardware and software updates provided by equipment and software suppliers and coordinate new equipment deployment.
- Maintain simulation and task trainer equipment with daily, weekly, monthly and annual maintenance. Monitor equipment safety and performance testing and certification.
- Act as liaison between SCC and the manufacturers of technology, audiovisual, and simulation equipment for trouble-shooting equipment and systems problems.
- Maintain inventory control procedures cost-effectively to ensure supplies are on hand when needed. Conducts inventory of materials, equipment, tools, and supplies as needed.
- Assist with maintenance of records on simulation software licensing.
- Organize the placement of equipment and supplies in the Simulation Center, classrooms, and storerooms. Maintain sign-out sheets and other record-keeping methods to track inventory location and level.
- Ensure maintenance of labs as professional, clean, safe, and operational facilities and optimal learning environment.
- Coordinate the scheduling of training among users. Maintain the training calendar and reservation process. Work with Health Professions leaders to establish priorities and maximize operational time.
- Provide summaries of simulator utilization, equipment usage, and equipment repair as input to department budget planning or accreditation requirements.
- Provide feedback from trainees and instructors concerning the acceptability of facilities and equipment for training needs and planning.
- Provide tours of the Clinical Simulation Center to visitors and guests, as needed. Participate in STEM events, recruitment activities, and showcasing opportunities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree with an emphasis in computer technology, adult education, or health-related field.
- Healthcare background preferred, including knowledge of medical procedures and terminology, especially as related to acute illness or injury.
- Demonstrated skill and comfort with the operation and use of computer-based and audio/visual equipment including troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated ability to assess, troubleshoot, and fix equipment problems rapidly, ideally in stressful settings like teaching sessions.
- Strong human relations and interpersonal communication skills to interact positively with diverse personalities and populations served by the program.
- Able to understand and communicate clinical process and technical issues effectively to any audience through oral presentation.
- Ability to tolerate long periods of physical activity and environmental stressors.
- Auditory and visual ability sufficient for observations and physical assessment.
- Ability to lift 40-50 pounds.
- Honesty, integrity, and ability to handle confidential matters with discretion required.
- Ability to use technology and computer software applications to perform work duties:
o Able to use Microsoft Office programs;
o Ability to learn and develop competency in any types of software required for simulations or SCC. - Understanding and commitment to the comprehensive community college philosophy. Valid driver’s license.

Physical Demands
The Health Professions Simulation Technician will be assigned to the West Burlington and Keokuk campuses and have the ability and mobility to regularly visit other areas throughout the college district. Must be able to work on a basis of “available as work demands” in addition to a fixed schedule, which may include evenings and weekends. In addition, the individual in this position will actively promote a positive image for the college district.
