Position Information Job Title Project Advisor, TRIO Student Support Services Job Description The Project Advisor will provide direct academic advising services to Student Support Services project participants. These services will be related to assisting participants in the successful completion of academic course work, specific program degree requirements and the processes necessary to transfer to baccalaureate degree granting institutions.This position is a full-time position (261 work days per year). The starting salary is $43,888.00 per year.Benefits include medical, dental & vision insurance, $50,000 life insurance, long-term disability, paid sick leave, paid discretionary leave, 15 days vacation, paid spring and holiday breaks and participation in IPERS or TIAA - CREF retirement plan.The SSS Project Advisor will be based at the West Burlington Campus, but must have the ability and mobility to service both campuses; travel to other areas nationally, regionally, state and throughout the college district required. Must be able to work on a basis of "available as work demands" in addition to a fixed schedule, which will include evenings and weekends. In addition, the individual in this position will actively promote a positive image for the college district.The SSS Project Advisor will abide by the employment contract and relevant policies and guidelines of the Board of Trustees. Employment is contingent upon the continuation of grant funding. Essential Duties Summary Responsibilities include but are not limited to : Commitment to Southeastern Community College's mission, vision, values and goals. Learn and embrace the comprehensive community college philosophy and related Iowa Code and Federal TRIO Grant ( DOE ) regulations. Learn, apply, and role-model all SCC policies and procedures, including but not limited to the strategic goals and expectations of accountability within the Student Services Division and Student Support Center department. Assist in identification and selection of eligible students for the SSS project. Conduct interviews and needs assessments with prospective SSS project participants. Develop individualized academic plans with participants to achieve their educational goals. Manage an assigned caseload of participants and provide academic, financial aid, transfer and scholarship advisement to facilitate their successful transfer to bachelor's degree-granting institutions, including but not limited to : registration, applying for and receiving financial aid / scholarships, financial literacy, and degree completion and four year transfer planning. Ensure that participants receive information aimed at increasing their awareness of educational and career opportunities. Coordinate and facilitate transfer visits to four-year institutions. Research, develop and implement First Year Experience and Second Year Experience seminar topics for project participants. Plan and facilitate academic support workshops offered to participants. Monitor, evaluate and track participants' performance and persistence and recommend appropriate intervention strategies as necessary. Assist in project tutoring services; facilitate individual and group tutoring as assigned. Assist in the development, organization and delivery of promotional strategies to recruit eligible students. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all services provided to participants. Assist with data collection and project evaluation for project performance reports. Maintain positive working relationships with faculty, staff, students and referral sources. Collaborate with appropriate college departments to address student needs, support program goals, and develop learning communities. Travel required with ability to work evenings and weekends. Required Qualifications EDUCATION Bachelor's Degree Required Master's Degree preferred in Student Personnel or Development, Counseling, Social Work, Education or related area from an accredited college or university EXPERIENCE Minimum two (2) years experience of appropriate and relevant professional experience, preferably working in a federal TRIO program or similar related program for disadvantaged college students. Prior work experience in a college setting preferred. Minimum two (2) years direct related experience working in a federal TRIO program or similar program for disadvantaged and at-risk individuals; three (3) or more year preferred. Experience assisting college students with academic, financial, graduation and transfer processes and issues preferred. Experience in teaching student development courses at college preferred. Strong human relations and interpersonal skills to interact positively and effectively with target student population. Ability to form professional supportive relationships with project participants. Ability to interpret and implement institutional, state and federal policies, procedures, regulations and guidelines. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a team member to achieve goals / objectives. Ability to prioritize, make sound decisions and adjust schedule to fulfill requirements of the project. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn and develop competency in student databases. Special consideration given to candidate with personal or professional experience in life situations similar to the program's target population. Honesty, integrity and ability to handle confidential matters with discretion required. Strong communications (written and verbal), analytical and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and accurately under pressure. Valid driver's license required. CDL preferred.
