Location: This position can be based at the Southeastern Idaho Public Health (SIPH) office in Pocatello, Blackfoot, Preston, or Malad, Idaho. Hybrid work options are available, with a combination of in-office and remote work.

Training Requirement: During the initial training period, the selected candidate will be required to work in person at the Pocatello SIPH office. Paid travel time and gas reimbursement will be provided for travel between the employee's designated home office (e.g., the SIPH building in Blackfoot, Preston, or Malad) and the Pocatello office. A district company car may also be available for travel.

The person in this position:

Department Leadership/Management

1. Participates in interviewing and hiring Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) staff (in collaboration with HR and the District Director).

2. Establishes clear performance expectations for WIC staff.

3. Develops and ensures implementation of training plans for new WIC staff.

4. Leads WIC department staff through constructive, accountable coaching on an ongoing basis.

5. Creates and supports growth opportunities for WIC staff.

6. Helps WIC staff to problem solve communication issues (both internal and external).

7. Actively monitors staff workload to assess for burnout, uneven workloads, etc., and assists staff with identifying and implementing changes that will improve the situation.

8. Makes decisions regarding disciplinary action when needed and implements appropriate steps based upon SIPH policy.

9. Ensures all contract/sub-grant deliverables are met.

10. Serves high risk clients as needed.

11. Engages in and supports Continuous Quality Improvement efforts.

12. Models and supports SIPH’s Organizational Values, and ensures WIC staff do so, as well.

Budgeting

1. Develops and monitors the WIC department budget annually; makes adjustments as needed.

2. Monitors contract/sub-grant budgets; makes adjustments as needed.

Management Team

1. Actively participates in Management Team meetings and activities.

2. Communicates MT decisions/rationale to WIC staff in a timely manner.

3. Actively participates in SIPH and WIC Department Strategic Planning, and supports Strategic Plan Goals and Strategies.

4. Monitors and updates SIPH Performance Dashboard on a monthly basis.

5. Fosters and empowers a team-centric approach within WIC and SIPH as a whole.

Community Resource

1. Serves as a WIC expert for community partners, including participating in appropriate meetings, delivering educational presentations, serving on panels, etc.

2. Answers community members’ and partners’ questions regarding WIC issues.

3. Helps to problem solve concerns of community members/partners, striving to reach win-win solutions.

4. Recognizes and capitalizes on opportunities for WIC to work collaboratively with stakeholders on public health issues.

5. Ensures WIC information is submitted to IT staff for social media on a timely and ongoing basis.

Minimum Qualifications:

This position requires:

  • good knowledge of public health principles and practices. This MQ is typically gained by successful completion of at least two college level courses -AND- one year experience -OR- two years' experience applying public health principles and practices.
  • good knowledge of supervisory practices. This MQ is typically gained by at least one year work experience supervising staff; -OR- successful completion of 6 college credit hours of courses or seminars covering the essential elements of management (planning, organizing, leading, and controlling).
  • experience in quality improvement practices. This MQ is typically gained through two years' of related work experience.
  • experience developing and monitoring a budget. This MQ is typically gained by two years' experience developing and monitoring a budget

Preferred Qualification:

  • Registered Dietitian License
