In harmony with the YMCA mission, and the YMCA Learning Center Philosophy, the supporting counselor for summer camp shall plan and implement activities to promote the social, physical, and intellectual growth of the children in her/his care.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITES INCLUDE:
ROLE RESPONSIBILITES INCLUDE:
- Supervises campers and ensures their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being.
- Ensures the cleanliness of the site.
- Assists in maintaining accurate program records, including incident/accident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance. Ensure ratios are met within licensing regulations.
- Knows and understands all emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
- Mediates any campers’ disputes.
- Knows, encourages, and follows all safety guidelines associated with the camp program, including knowing the whereabouts of campers at all times.
- Maintains constant surveillance of the pool/body of water areas.
- Establish and maintain a friendly rapport with campers and their families.
- Show respect for peers and management
- Be prepared with the materials required for the daily planned activities.
- Be an active participant during the camp day to engage and enhance the summer camp experience.
- Assist children with hygiene and self-help needs in a safe and appropriate manner
- Attend staff meetings, maintain required training hours, and attend center events as scheduled.
- Comply with all YMCA policies and procedures.
- Other duties assigned as necessary.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- He/she should have the capacity to understand and follow state regulations pertinent to the summer camp program.
- The supporting camp counselor must have good communication skills, both verbal and written.
- He/she will be required to attend and pass CPR and First Aid classes. This must be maintained while employed at the center.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Visual, auditory, and verbal ability to communicate effectively.
- Must have high level of alertness, concentration, stamina, initiative and ability to work independently.
- Ability to lift 30 lbs. and stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time; occasionally stoop/bend.
- Maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times.
- Ability to perform a variety of tasks outside in various climates
