Southeastern's non-credit English as a Second Language Program serves adult students from over 25 different countries and from 5 continents. We are searching for a new part-time instructor for the spring semester to begin in January. All classes take place in person during daytime hours on Southeastern's main campus in Hammond, LA.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement lesson plans to teach English as a Second Language (ESL) to students of various cultural and academic backgrounds and proficiency levels in an English immersion environment (as students in every class come from a variety of linguistic backgrounds, English is the language of instruction)
- Provide instruction in grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.
- Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes language learning and cultural understanding.
- Assess student progress and provide feedback on their language development.
- Collaborate with other teachers and staff to develop curriculum materials and resources.
- Utilize technology and multimedia tools to enhance language instruction.
- Adapt teaching strategies and materials to meet the individual needs of students
- Monitor student attendance and maintain accurate records of student performance.
Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in TESOL, English, Education or a related field required. A Master's degree in TESOL or a related field and/or a TESOL Certificate in addition to a bachelor's degree preferred.
- Previous experience teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) to adults.
- Experience working with students from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Excellent organizational skills for lesson planning and resource management.
