POSITION SUMMARY : Wayne County Healthy Communities is seeking for a community and School-Based Dental Hygienist to provide preventive dental care and oral health education to children, adolescents, and underserved populations in schools, community clinics, and outreach settings. This role supports efforts to improve oral health outcomes by delivering services such as screenings, fluoride applications, sealants, and referrals, while promoting oral hygiene awareness.
The Wayne County Healthy Communities was established in 2012. It is a not-for-profit community health center providing medical, dental, OB / GYN, pediatric, community outreach, and behavioral health services across Wayne County. Our mission at Wayne County Healthy Communities is to provide high-quality health care to all patients in a patient-centered medical home.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Direct Patient Care :
- Provide dental hygiene services at the Wayne / Hamtramck clinics under the general supervision of the dentist.
- Precept and supervise dental hygiene students in provision of dental hygiene care.
Outreach and Education :
Perform dental screenings, cleanings, and assessments in schools, mobile units, and community health settings.Identify oral health issues and refer patients to partnering dentists for further treatment.Maintain patient records, ensuring accurate documentation of services provided.Educate students, parents, and community members on oral hygiene practices.Deliver presentations and workshops on oral health topics in schools and community events.Collaborate with school staff to coordinate dental care and education programs.Program Support and Development :
Assist in planning and implementing community dental health initiatives.Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including healthcare providers, school administrators, and public health officials.Gather and analyze data on program outcomes to support reports and funding proposals.Compliance and Safety :
Adhere to infection control and safety protocols during service delivery.Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal dental regulations and guidelines.Maintain licensure and participate in continuing education as required.EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS :
Associate or bachelor’s degree in dental Hygiene from an accredited program.Active state dental hygienist license (RDH). RequiredCurrent CPR Certification. RequiredExperience working in public health, community health, or school-based settings is preferred.Experience providing oral health education to diverse populations.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in community-based environments.Cultural competence and a passion for working with underserved populations.WORK ENVIRONMENT :
Primarily in schools, mobile dental units, and community health centers.Occasional evening or weekend hours for outreach events may be required.Moderate travel to various locations within the community or region.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Ability to stand for long periods and perform repetitive hand and arm movements.Ability to lift and transport portable dental equipment (up to 30 pounds).Salary : $75,000 - $90,000 (based on qualification & experience)
