What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surgery Scheduler position at Southeastern Orthopaedic Specialists?
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Verify Insurance coverage and obtain authorization from health care provider;
- Verify and obtain Insurance authorization and screen patients for surgeries;
- Coordinate and manage surgery schedule for assigned physicians:
- Call, find and locate PCP to obtain referral, if needed;
- Obtain information from Dr. Office for approval;
- Research additional information needed, have patients chart updated with information;
- Communicates with hospital and outpatient service center to confirm or collect authorization prior to surgery;
- If authorization is denied, report to physician and request a peer to peer review.
- Duties would include contacting patients to schedule surgeries, advise patient of time and location of surgery and obtain referral from primary care physician if needed;
- Other duties as assigned;
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- 1-3 years of previous surgery scheduling experience in a medical office setting; orthopedic experience strongly preferred;
- Understanding of medical terminology;
- Demonstrated knowledge of commercial insurance carriers' guidelines and criteria of verification, authorization and reimbursement;
- Prior experience using Epic preferred;
