DESCRIPTION:
To cultivate a dynamic and inclusive library environment that fosters a love of reading, supports student achievement, equips students with critical research and information literacy skills, and provides teachers assistance with instructional technology.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Massachusetts DESE licensed school librarian preferred
Bachelor's degree required, Master’s degree preferred
Knowledgeable and resourceful in information management and library science
Experienced in integrating and utilizing instructional technology tools to enhance teaching and learning
Highly motivated self-starter who can work independently and proactively
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Passionate about reading, learning, and literacy development
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages library procedures and supervision
Establishes and implements procedures for selection, acquisition, circulation, and weeding of materials in various formats
Manages circulation of main collection, classroom novels and textbooks, including tracking and following up on overdue and lost books.
Supervises students in the library and manages the library schedule to create a productive and welcoming environment
Collaborates with classroom teachers to integrate library resources and instructional technology into the curriculum
Develops and delivers engaging lessons on research skills, digital literacy, and ethical use of information
Administers and manages the school library budget to ensure the effective allocation of resources
Conducts training and provides support for volunteers, student assistants, and other library staff
Promotes a lifelong love of reading by curating a diverse and engaging collection of books and digital resources
Encourages and supports students in utilizing the library for both academic and personal interests
Provides direct instruction and guidance in locating, evaluating, and using print and digital resources
Schedules and conducts library orientations and ongoing instructional sessions for students and staff
Understands and promotes educational technology tools and digital resources and also provides support to teachers and administrative staff with these instructional tools
Maintains a good working relationship with SAILS, Inc., a nonprofit library consortium providing resource sharing and access to libraries across Southeastern Massachusetts and maintains active professional memberships in organizations such as MSLA, MLS, ASCD, and ALA.
Ensures compliance with copyright laws, fair use policies, and intellectual property
Trains teachers on the integration of technology and digital resources in the classroom
Stays informed about emerging technologies and evaluates new resources to enhance student learning
Stays current with best practices in library science, education, and instructional technology through professional development.
All duties as assigned by the superintendent or designee
