What are the responsibilities and job description for the Faculty - Criminal Justice position at Southeastern University?
The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to teach across the curriculum in a Master's program both in a traditional and online setting. Previous teaching and curriculum development experience is desired. In addition, the candidate will be expected to participate in the recruitment and advisement of students, serve on departmental and university committees, promote program development, contribute to assessment efforts, and advise student organizations. Candidates must be committed to the Christian mission of Southeastern University and excellence in Criminal Justice education.
Responsibilities will include:
Teaching in the classroom and online across the criminal justice curriculum
Developing criminal justice curriculum and syllabi
Advising criminal justice undergraduate students
Demonstrating a commitment to community and university service
Serving on university and department committees as assigned
Representing the criminal justice program to professional criminal justice organizations and associations
Collaborating with various professional agencies
Maintaining a full-time faculty teaching load (15 credit hours/semester)
Actively engage in scholarship
Integrating a Christian worldview throughout the curriculum
Salary and Rank: Commensurate with experience.
Starting Date: The appointment carries a full-time, one year contract from July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026. The academic year begins August 1, 2025 and runs through May 31, 2026.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: Dean, College of Social Sciences and Humanities; Department Chair
Supervisory Responsibility: May supervise some graduate assistants, teaching assistants or other student employees.
All remaining duties are considered "nonessential" within the context of the ADA, which means that the function could be reassigned to another employee in order to allow a disabled individual to hold the position. Alternatively, the manager could try to provide a reasonable accommodation so that the disabled individual could perform the function.

Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in any discipline with a Master's in Criminal Justice or related field from a regionally accredited college/university
Over five years of practical experience in the criminal justice field
Commitment to Christian faith integration in and out of the classroom
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level
Strong interpersonal skills
Over seven years of practical experience in the criminal justice system
Involvement in community collaborations within the criminal justice system
Previous online development and instruction

TRAINING
All new hires and employees transferring into a new position will have a 90-day probationary period within which to learn the functions of the job and to be evaluated. Following the probationary period, the employee can transition to regular status, have the probationary period extended in order to receive more training, or employment can be terminated. SCREENING
All full-time positions at SEU are deemed security-sensitive and require background checks. Employees required to drive their own personal vehicle, a rental car or an SEU vehicle in performance of their duties must pass an MVR records check and meet the requirements of the Universitys insurance carrier in order to meet the requirements of the position.
