Pay: $22.68 - $28.81

Job Summary: The electrician will perform electrical installations/repairs and other jobs related to the maintenance, renovation, or construction of campus facilities.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Installs electrical equipment as needed
  • Plans for secondary electrical system additions or modifications
  • Plans and rewires remodel spaces as needed, including installing conduit and pulling wire
  • Monitors, inspects, and performs minor repairs on the SAU high voltage loop
  • Troubleshoots and repairs all types of electrical equipment found on campus, including food service equipment, science equipment, print press equipment, switch gear, transfer switches, generators, electrical tools, man-lifts, lighting and controls, boiler and HVAC controls, etc.
  • Performs electrical repairs for campus buildings, including rental housing
  • Plans, employs, and maintains all panel labeling per university and OSHA requirements
  • Reports to the supervisor about any hazardous conditions observed on campus to determine how to correct them
  • Performs all other reasonably business-related functions as assigned

Special Requirements:  Must have an expressed commitment to Jesus Christ, the teachings and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and be an SDA church member in good and regular standing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
A current Tennessee Master Electrician’s license is required or able to be obtained.  Must have knowledge of commercial and industrial electrical systems, including planning additions or modifications on secondary circuits.  Must be able to use appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment to repair, install, replace, and test electrical circuits, equipment, and appliances.  Must be able to diagnose and repair electrical controls, industrial motor control centers, and programmable logic controllers for secondary systems. Must be able to read commercial electrical blueprints and apply NEC through the full range of commercial and industrial maintenance and construction work. 
Understand how to troubleshoot controls in various types of electrical equipment, such as boilers, hot water heaters, and circulatory pumps. Must be able to operate all kinds of equipment required for the job, including man-lifts. Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently. Basic computer skills required.  Must hold a valid U.S. driver’s license with a reasonable driving record. Possess the ability to lead and train staff and/or students.

Education and Experience: A minimum of a high school diploma. College or trade school education preferred.  A minimum of five years of experience working as a commercial electrician, with varied experience in maintenance tasks.

Skills and Aptitudes: Essential interpersonal relationship skills are required, including the ability to work collaboratively with other employees in a team spirit and interact appropriately with personnel (faculty and students) on job sites.  Demonstrate a safety-conscious attitude and can promote it within the workforce.  Use caution with tools and equipment. 

Physical Demands:  Requires sitting, standing, bending, reaching, climbing, and driving university vehicles.  May require lifting to 100 pounds.  Requires a standard range of hearing and vision.

Working Conditions: Essential tasks are performed under various weather conditions and in non-conditioned construction environments, including outdoor work.  Working conditions may include exposure to abnormal temperatures (such as those found on rooftops or attics) and/or high humidity.  Will be asked to work on rotation, after regular business hours, on weekends, or holidays for emergency repairs.
