POSITION SUMMARY
The adult education instructor works under general supervision and is responsible for instructing students in the classroom. This position is governed by agency/institution policy. This is a grant funded position.

SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education: Bachelor’s Degree with current Arkansas teaching license
Experience : Three to five years of teaching experience
Other: Must earn Adult Education Certification within 3 years of hire date.
Other Requirements
Knowledge of grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Knowledge of general office procedures. Knowledge of basic record keeping procedures. Knowledge of word processing applications. Ability to operate standard office equipment. Ability to provide information and assistance to office staff, visitors, and callers. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations. Ability to extract and organize information. Must obtain the Adult Education Certification within 3 years of hire date and make satisfactory progress towards obtaining certificate. Also, will enroll and complete the Career Service Provider (CSP) certification within one year of hire.

- Maintain positive attitude and working relationships with clients, other agencies, and co-workers
- Demonstrates professionalism by reporting to work as required, follow supervisor’s instruction and demonstrates a spirit of cooperation, support, respect, and loyalty to supervisor; honors chain of command
- Maintain student confidentiality. Explain program rules and procedures to students, either individually or as a group; have students sign student contract
- Discuss student goals and create an individualized plan toward meeting those goals; evaluate progress and adjust plan as needed
- Provide individual, small group, or large group instruction for WAGE™, Secondary School Equivalent, Integrated Education Training (IET), Adult Secondary Education (ASE), Adult Basic Education (ABE), English as a Second Language (ESL), and other Adult Education services for students assigned to the classroom.
- Develop and/or create curriculum and lesson plans for classes and participate in the development of new classes or programs
- Use a variety of instructional strategies and assign appropriate materials to help each student meet his or her goals, supplementing or finding alternate materials/instructional methods as needed based on learner goals, reflection and feedback, assessment results, and instructor observation
- Maintain student folders and records, especially WAGE™ and IET, to ensure all have met the criteria needed before completing their goals. Maintain and submit attendance records daily (sign-in sheets) and ensure students are assessed in a timely manner
- Maintain classroom discipline; classroom management; monitor breaks, as needed
- Continuously evaluate class performance and provide input on program improvement
- Keep professionally up-to-date in areas of instruction and complete required professional development hours. Participate in relevant professional development activities as set forth in professional development plan and apply knowledge and skills from PD workshops to improve teaching practice in the classroom.
- Provide data and information for program reports as needed for meetings as requested
- Attend state meetings/trainings, local meetings, and events as required
- Actively participate in recruitment activities as required and retention activities as stated in the retention policy
- Setup and conduct monthly visits with local businesses/industries and the community to discuss the WAGE™ and IET programs and other adult education services and to establish and maintain partnerships with local business/industries.
- Keep abreast of changes in the workforce in program’s service area.
- Research and establish IET programs relevant to high demand occupations in service area.
- Cross train in all programs to be familiar with requirements and to be able to help students reach their goals
- Adhere to all program policies
- Perform other duties as assigned
