Job Summary:

The electronics instructor must have a strong background in electronics, typically holding a degree in electronics engineering, electrical engineering, or technology education. Practical experience in electronics, along with teaching experience.

The qualified instructor must be competent in the development of machines, materials, instruments, processes, and services in the electronics industry. Through differentiated instruction, the incumbent will teach students the principles and applications of electronics, including circuit design, troubleshooting, and repair. Creating a curriculum that meets the needs of employer partners and industry experts is essential for this position. Fundamental components of this role are preparing lesson plans, delivering lectures, and providing relevant hands-on training lab exercises.

The expectation is that the successful candidate works professionally, productively, and effectively in a fast-paced environment and department while doing quality work. The incumbent must be detail-oriented, have effective oral communication, strong interpersonal skills, and be capable of maintaining working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community stakeholders.

This is a grant-funded position with the salary and benefits being covered by the HIRED grant for the next two years. Continued employment after two years will be dependent on SAU tech's staffing needs and budget allowance.

Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty adequately. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Experience in electronics and the curriculum/courses taught in the industry.
  • Understanding of and commitment to SAUT's mission and community college teaching practices.
  • Innovative and flexible teaching style and understanding of the needs of students and employers.
  • Ability to develop, revise, and modify curriculum to meet workforce needs.
  • Capability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals and effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of SAU and SAUT, clients, customers, and stakeholders.
  • Apply concepts such as fractions percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations and work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Capable and willing to integrate computer applications into teaching.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to the instructional program
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Manufacturing, Applied Science, Industrial/Technical, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related degree
  • OR bachelor’s degree with an Electrical/Manufacturing technology concentration or related degree
  • OR an advanced professional credential as an Electrician Journeyperson.
  • 20 plus years of practical experience

Additional Qualifications:

  • Able to meet timelines and due dates, and complete assigned duties.
  • Willing to work collaboratively across multiple departments for institutional success.
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced environment and overseeing multiple projects
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • A Licensed Electrician or journeyman electrician.
  • NC3 Certification and 3M Certification
  • Higher education teaching experience.
  • Familiarity with the use of competency-based modularized courseware, and instruction.
