Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB

The Director of FP&A will lead the financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and strategic analysis functions for Southern Bank. This role is responsible for delivering data-driven insights to senior leadership and the board, enhancing financial performance, and ensuring alignment with corporate strategy. The ideal candidate has a strong background in finance, excellent analytical skills, and is action oriented to drive improvement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PERFORMANCE AREAS

Financial Planning & Forecasting:

  • Lead the annual budgeting and long-term financial planning process, ensuring alignment with the bank’s strategic objectives.
  • Develop multi-year financial forecasts, incorporating economic trends and business performance.
  • Develop and manage rolling forecasts to provide real-time insights into financial trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Oversee the development of scenario models to assess financial impacts of strategic initiatives, regulatory changes, and market conditions.

Strategic & Business Analysis:

  • Provide financial insights to support strategic initiatives, mergers & acquisitions, and capital deployment.
  • Provide executive leadership with data-driven recommendations, highlighting financial performance, profitability drivers, and efficiency opportunities.
  • Conduct competitive benchmarking and industry analysis to support strategic decision-making.
  • Partner with business units to enhance financial decision-making through data analytics to analyze growth opportunities and trends, manage business unit economics, and expense optimization strategies.
  • Manage and analyze profitability reports for the branch network, collaborating closely with branch and regional management to improve growth and profitability.
  • Generate comprehensive producer growth and profitability reports, tracking key performance metrics to evaluate individual and team performance.
  • Design and develop customer pricing models and profitability reports, incorporating a client’s total risk-adjusted return on capital (RAROC) across all banking products and services.

Financial Reporting & Board Presentations:

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial analysis packages for the executive team and board of directors.
  • Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) and dashboards to track performance against strategic goals.
  • Support Financial Reporting by assisting with specialized financial materials for earnings calls and investor presentations.

Capital & Liquidity Planning:

  • Work closely with Treasury to analyze capital adequacy, funding strategies, and interest rate risk exposure.
  • Assist in stress testing and regulatory reporting related to capital planning and liquidity management.

Process Improvement & Technology Enablement:

  • Drive automation and efficiency improvements in financial modeling, reporting, and analytics.
  • Implement FP&A tools and dashboards to enhance financial visibility across the organization.
  • Collaborate with IT and finance teams to improve data integrity and reporting capabilities

Qualifications


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES EDUCATION

  • Expertise in financial modeling, profitability analysis, and capital markets
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex financial concepts to senior leaders and board members.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field (MBA or CFA preferred).
  • 7 years of high-level financial analysis experience in FP&A, capital markets, investment banking.
  • Strong experience in Excel and data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, or similar).
  • Experience working with large datasets; familiarity with SQL or other coding languages is preferred.
  • Experience in a public company environment with exposure to SEC reporting, investor relations, and earnings calls preferred.
