Summary: Medical Assistant I is the entry, developmental and first working level of the Medical Assistant Job Family. Under general supervision in an outpatient clinical setting, the medical assistant performs a variety of routine administrative, clerical, and technical supportive services to assist medical and nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients. Assists with direct patient care procedures and related tasks and performs medical procedures of a routine nature, as dictated by established clinical procedures. Responsible for clinical duties such as taking vital signs, giving injections, transporting medications, performing simple diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, drawing blood, sterilizing, and cleaning equipment and maintaining examination rooms and supplies. Works under the clinical supervision of a licensed physician or as delegated by the physician for patient care activities, and under the general direction of the designated manager/supervisor. May also be responsible for some administrative duties.

Essential Functions:
· Welcome patients by greeting them in person or on the telephone.
· Verify patient information by interviewing patient, recording medical history, confirming purpose of visit.
· Prepare patients by directing and/or accompanying them to the exam room.
· Prepare equipment and exam rooms, and clean instruments.
· Perform preliminary physical tests; take blood pressure, weight, and temperature; report patient history summary.
· Communicate with patients and informing them about normal or abnormal laboratory test results as instructed by Clinic Manager.
· Secure patient information and maintain patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; completing diagnostic coding and procedure coding; keeping patient information confidential.
· Maintain safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
· Complete records by recording / documenting patient examination, treatment, telemedicine, office visits and test results.
· Serve and protect the physician or healthcare provider practice by adhering to professional standards, policies, and procedures, HIPPA regulations, federal, state, and local requirements and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards.
· Aware of medical supplies and equip exam rooms with appropriate supplies.
· Calling patients and answering telephone to schedule appointments and help with patient needs.
· Knowledge of patient vitals, Chief complaint, patient referral, Administering Injections, Apply dressing.
· Basic Knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
· Basic Knowledge of office procedures including Hemoglobin, Glucose, Blood draws, uranalysis.
· Work closely with providers to assist in exams, procedures, collecting and preparing.
· Basic knowledge of insurance, medical and commercial.
· Able to navigate computer and software in a proficient manner.
· Any other duties as assigned.
Certification and Licensure:
· Medical assisting certificate.
· Associates preferred.
Work Environment:
· Fast-paced environment with occasional high-pressure situations
· Environmentally controlled medical office environment
· Frequent interaction with a diverse population including team members, providers, government officials, patients, insurance companies and other members of the public.
Physical Demands:
· Frequent sitting, writing, typing, grasping and speaking.
· Occasional standing, walking, reaching, bending, stooping, lifting and carrying.
· Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
· Frequent use of computer, keyboard, copy and fax machine and phone.
