INTRODUCTION

 

Veterinary Dental Specialties – San Diego is hiring an experienced Lead Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT). The Lead RVT trains, supervises and assists technicians to plan, coordinate and perform a variety of duties concerned with dentistry, anesthesia and exceptional client and patient care. This position also encompasses all the duties of a veterinary technician.

 

This position earns a competitive wage of $35 to $40 per hour depending on experience. A full benefits package including medical, dental, vision and life insurance, as well as long-term disability for full-time employees. Company uniforms are provided, and you will receive an employee pet discount. We offer paid time off (PTO), a 401k, and profit sharing. Licensure and CE allowances are provided. JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3 – 5 years of Lead RVT experience in a veterinary clinic or specialty clinic as a veterinary technician.
  • Required: previous surgical technician assistance.
  • Must be proficient in intubation, IV catheter placement, must be comfortable monitoring and quickly respond to anesthesia and assisting the surgeon as necessary.
  • Experience with dentals and dental radiology required.
  • Leadership and training experience preferred.
  • High degree of emotional intelligence, work ethic and integrity skills required.
  • Able to use sound judgement when dealing with confidential information.
  • Able to multi-task and prioritize job duties in a busy and constantly changing work environment.
  • Able to be calm and level-headed in an often-stressful work environment.
  • Experience in maintaining computerized medical records; EzyVet and Cubex experience a plus.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic animal handling, knowledge of basic animal health care.
  • Must pass a background and drug screening (THC not tested)

 

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Train, supervise, and assist the veterinary technicians and assistants.
  • Ensure that the hospital and its employees are in compliance with federal and state animal health laws and regulations including OSHA and DEA. Inform the practice manager and/or veterinarian in charge of any regulatory issues.
  • Exhibit a technical knowledge of products and medications sold, including dietary products. Demonstrate the ability to explain and educate clients on products and answer their questions regarding product purchase/use.
  • Create employee schedules that align with doctors, team, surgery and outpatient needs while monitoring overtime. Make arrangements to cover shifts by either seeking coverage by technical team or covering shifts yourself.
  • Make recommendations to the practice manager concerning personnel matters, disciplinary actions and follow through.
  • Provide guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance. Conduct timely performance evaluations, mediate interpersonal problems and address concerns from technicians and assistants.
  • Conduct monthly team meetings and one-on-ones.
  • Obtain and record patient histories.
  • Collect specimens and perform routine laboratory procedures and tests.
  • Dispense and administer medications as prescribed by veterinarians.
  • Administer fluids prescribed by the veterinarian.
  • Administer and monitor anesthesia under the direction of a veterinarian.
  • Prepare patients, instruments and equipment for surgery.
  • Assure that monitoring and support equipment such as anesthetic machines, cardiac monitors and breathing apparatus are in good working condition.
  • Take and process radiographs and CT-Cone beam.
  • Clean, maintain and sterilize instruments, equipment, and materials.
  • Work well with all employees and ensure that your actions support the hospital, the doctors and the practice philosophy.
  • Perform general physical activities that require bending, standing and stooping. May be required to walk or stand for long periods of time.
  • Frequently lift, carry and handle dogs weighing 50 lbs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
