The Career Services Manager works with the Campus Director in managing and guiding the vision and long-term strategic planning for careers that support students and alumni of Southern Careers Institute. This position works with the Career Services job search support, programming, and resources for students and alumni. The Career Services Manager is responsible for managing the daily operations of the campus Career Services professionals in accordance with the Director of Career Services’ plan to develop and administer career and employment assistance programs for students and alumni.

Essential Duties, Responsiblities, And Expectations
  • Establish goals and objectives and develop strategic and operational plans for providing career services; assess and report outcomes to management and key stakeholders;
  • Supervise staff with consistent opportunities for professional growth and development; hire, train and manage full- and part-time staff as well as student workers;
  • Manage department budget for staffing, programming, and various events;
  • Ensure that student follow-ups are being conducted in accordance with department policies and procedures;
  • Build effective relationships with local and regional employers, non-profits, government organizations and community partners to identify employment opportunities for students and alumni;
  • Set the standard for professional dress;
  • Actively maintain an awareness of employment and industry trends and discuss research with Career Services and Education department as appropriate;
  • Plan, promote and market services and information to students, including information resources, career counseling, and career-related programs;
  • Develop and implement strategic plans according to the Institute’s mission, goals, and market realities; manage growth accordingly;
  • Track all student/graduate cohorts in Student Administrative System software and ensure proper documentation of student files to maintain compliance with State, Federal and Accreditation regulations;
  • Coordinate and attend Job / Career Fairs;
  • Participate in campus and off-campus events, including graduation and marketing events;
  • Partner with directors of all programs on the development of career
programs and initiatives that affect students’ marketability to employers;
  • Attend industry-related networking events to build potential externship and employer database;
  • Oversee the timely collection and reporting of student and alumni employment outcomes and ensure that accurate data are submitted as required by state, accrediting, and federal agencies;
  • Resolve student issues concerning placement and externship;
  • Provide continuous assessment of the department and develop sustainable processes to improve efficiencies and drive continuous improvement in programs and services;
  • Serve on committees as appropriate;
  • Represent the Institute and all affiliated brands in the most professional and positive light at all times;
  • Expected work hours are between the hours of: 8:00AM – 7:00PM Monday through Thursday, and 8:00AM to 4:00PM on Fridays;
  • Must work until 7:00PM at least one night per week except on Fridays;
  • Play a vital role in delivering a positive student experience;
  • Plan and conduct “Level Up” workshops on career topics;
  • Conduct exit interviews with all students upon completion of program;
  • Source Job orders and connect graduates to employers;
  • Provide career guidance, support, information and skills training;
  • Regular, consistent, on-time attendance is an essential function of the job;
  • Compliance with all local, state and federal regulations;
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervision of campus Career Services professionals, Career Services Coordinators and Externship Coordinators.

  • Take initiative and use independent judgment within established guidelines;
  • Successfully interface with office staff, students and manager;
  • Effectively analyze situations and perform conflict resolution;
  • Ability to coach and motivate teammates and students for goal achievement;
  • Ability to research, critically think about and analyze student records and policy for resolution;
  • Handle a variety of projects under varying degrees of pressure;
  • Maintain confidential information and abide by all Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) rules and regulations;
  • Analyze problems, identify potential solutions, assess consequences of various proposed actions and recommend the best options and implement approved solutions in support of company goals;
  • Collect, analyze and interpret data in order to solve problems and/or trouble shoot potential issues;
  • Highly organized and detail oriented;
  • Passionate belief in the value of our Education Programs.

  • Frequently required to talk and hear in person and over the phone;
  • Frequently required to walk the campus;
  • Frequent sitting at a computer or telephone for extended periods of time;
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle or feel for reaching or lifting with hands and arms;
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and the ability to focus;
  • Frequent use of the vision for up close inspection of various electronic screens and printed content;
  • May require occasional travel in personal vehicle to various locations depending on needs.

  • A creative mindset and design-oriented thinking;
  • Frequent, extended use of a computer and other electronic devices;
  • Ability to learn and comprehend advanced instructions and orientation;
  • Understand the meaning of words and body language used by current and prospective students, alumni and employers and respond effectively to achieve Career Services goals;

  • Occasional training and counseling of employees and ability to present instructions in an understandable and effective manner.
