TRAVEL & WORK LOCATION
The Civil Field - Instrumentation Technician is directly responsible for performing, coordinating and facilitating fieldwork in the Drilling Services group of Civil Field Services. The primary responsibilities of the Instrumentation Technician will be the development, maintenance and installation of groundwater and surface water monitoring instrumentation and telemetry to support Coal Combustion Residuals (CCR) and Dam Safety Projects, and the oversight of external contractors performing this work. Specific instrumentation required to maintain, and install will include but is not limited to, Troll 500 and 400 Pressure Transducers, In-Situ VuLinks, Solar Panels, Dataloggers, Automated Slope Inclinometers, various Campbell Scientific, Geokon, Worldsensing, and YSI/Xylem Equipment, etc.

- This position will require overnight travel (approximately 90% - 100%) in Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi
- The successful candidate will work a 10-hour/4-day work week schedule, Monday – Thursday with some weekend work required
- This position is a field position and interested candidates should be comfortable working outdoors, year-round, and in inclement weather
- Home office location: Logan Martin Geological Building - Vincent, Alabama
- Candidates living outside of our traditional service area (AL, GA, MS) may be considered, provided they would be willing to travel to work and/or field location on a routine (to be determined) and as-needed basis.

Education
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physical Science, or related field preferred
- 40-hour OSHA Hazardous Waste Certification a plus
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in the collection, measurement and recording of field data for surface water and groundwater monitoring
- Calibrate, maintain, and use surface water and groundwater quality monitoring equipment for pH, ORP, DO, turbidity, conductivity & temperature measurements, etc.
- Collect water level measurements from groundwater monitoring wells and piezometers using a handheld meter
- Proficient in performing slug testing (rising/falling head tests) on groundwater monitoring wells
- Develop newly installed groundwater monitoring wells and piezometers using various types of pumps and equipment
- Provide oversight to external contractors in support of various environmental and geotechnical drilling projects
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications desired (e.g. Excel, Microsoft Office and PowerPoint, etc.)
- Must have high mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills to maintain instrumentation in support of groundwater, surface water and the transmission of data to various iCloud servers
- Operation and maintenance of underground utility line locating and subsurface scanning equipment, to include Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) operating RADAN software, Juniper System Geode GPS system and utility line locating devices
- Operate UTVs and off-road vehicles
- Thorough knowledge of all appropriate safety rules, with a background in environmental monitoring and sampling protocols & regulations
- Valid driver's license required
- Physically able to perform as part of field crew performing manual labor
- Ability to effectively communicate and build relationships with clients, peers and related industry organizations in the environmental compliance arena
- Motivated and a proven ability to troubleshoot and solve problems with limited supervision
