This position has a target hiring timeline of Q3 2024. As an armed Nuclear Security Officer (NSO) at Plant Vogtle near Augusta, Georgia you will be part of a well-trained Security Organization charged with ensuring safety of personnel and nuclear reactor systems. The high security environment requires an elevated standard of mental and physical readiness in order to successfully deter and defeat the “Design Basis Threat (DBT).”
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
Summary Of Position Duties
The Nuclear Security Officer (NSO) reports to the Shift Lieutenant and supports daily shift activities which maintain site physical security. The responsibilities of the NSO include the following activities:
Educational / Background / Experience Requirements:
Must meet and maintain Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) requirements of physical fitness including normal weight, as evidenced by Southern Nuclear's current standard for acceptable Body Mass Index ratio/waist circumference. - Continuous focus on SAFETY
- Main gate and protected area access control
- Vehicle search and escort
- Personnel screening and search
- Protected area and vital area patrols
- Armed tactical contingency response
- Live-fire weapons training
- Annual testing and re-qualification
- Dependable VIGILANCE at all times, 24/7 Sentry-posts
Educational / Background / Experience Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED is required
- Two (2) years law enforcement, military, corrections facility, or armed security experience desired
- Current knowledge of security technology
- Basic computer skills
- Experience in dealing with regulations and procedures

- Overtime should be expected; normal range is 10 to 20%
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Successful completion of onsite physical abilities test
- Selection process may require 3- 5 separate visits to the facility to complete all criteria
- Successfully meeting background screening and NRC Fitness for Duty requirements
- Successful candidate is required to serve on the Emergency Response organization AND live within one (1) hour of the SNC Emergency Operations Facility for emergency response availability
