Canterbury House has an opening for an Activity Coordinator to design, plan and coordinate events for our residents. The Activity Coordinator assists the residents of Canterbury House and contributes to the enrichment of their lives in a positive manner to ensure their satisfaction and well-being. This position is highly visible within the Canterbury House community and the greater Charleston community. As such, cultivation and maintenance of relationships within and outside of the community on behalf of Canterbury House is a key part of this role. Additionally, this position maintains communication databases, which serve the community.

Job Requirements:
Some college preferred; high school diploma required.
Valid SC Driver’s License.
1-3 years’ experience as an activities professional working with elderly.
Experience communicating and coordinating with professional organizations.
Ability to direct daily activities with little or no supervision.
Proficient with computer programs to include Microsoft Office.
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
Interpersonal skills are necessary for exchanging information as well as maintaining a courteous relationship with the residents, families, visitors and Canterbury House employees.
Job Duties:
Maintain relationships with various Charleston organizations in collaboration of events.
Establish and maintain positive relationships with residents of Canterbury House.
Represent Canterbury House in the greater community in a positive and professional manner.
Grow and maintain a base of knowledge of resident-appropriate arts, events, and organizations within the greater Charleston community.

Research and coordinate guest speakers for resident events. Introduce guest speakers to event attendees in a professional manner.
Coordinate and submit invoices and payment for entertainment and services.
Recruit, schedule, direct, and supervise volunteers for activities.
Coordinate with other departments’ functions to ensure residents’ needs are met and positive programming is received.
Develop, prepare, and assist with correspondence such as fliers, announcements, bulletin boards, etc.
Plan, coordinate and arrange annual and monthly parties.
Provide printed calendars and newsletters monthly staff and residents.
Update resident and staff birthday lists.
Make morning announcements to let residents know daily activities occurring.
Attend meetings as necessary, including resident updates, safety, etc.
Ordering supplies for the building and making sure supplies are stocked.
Be the representative for the monthly Food Boxes; submit the required information after each visit.
Coordinate and communicate with Meals on Wheels and the volunteers; delivering at times.
Driving the bus for special outings and to fill in when the bus driver is not here.
Coordinate with the church and volunteers on food deliveries.
Assist in getting the building ready for inspections and assisting with inspections.
Help residents with setting up CARTA accounts, finding care givers, etc.
Coordinating with Drs and pharmacies to come in and provide services for the residents.
Coordinating with the local library to set up dates for the Bookmobile.
