Southern Dominion Health System is looking for a Certified Professional Coder. The Certified Professional Coder works as part of the Patient Care Team to perform the administrative duties necessary to perform billing/coding duties in order to promote the mission of Southern Dominion Health System, Inc. The CPC plays a critical role in the healthcare industry by ensuring that patient medical records are accurately coded and compliant with all regulations. This position involves analyzing medical records and assigning appropriate codes to diagnoses and procedures, which facilitates proper billing and reimbursement.
1. Communicates with patients and staff in a courteous and professional manner and addresses questions and needs with sensitivity to patient confidentiality, cultural diversity, and individualized requirements for assistance.
2. Provides patients and staff with needed information or resources as appropriate.
3. Willingly cooperates and shares information, knowledge, and expertise in carrying out the objectives of the Patient Care Team.
4. Provides guidance and support to all staff and serves as a mentor in regard to billing and coding needs within the organization.
5. Takes initiative and accepts accountability as a patient advocate and promotes patient satisfaction.
6. Review of electronic medical records initiated by a health care provider.
7. Responsible for verifying and coding of the diagnosis, evaluation and management, procedures or other codes required for the completeness and accuracy of the record, in accordance with Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10-CM) and other relevant coding guidelines.
8. Responsible for reviewing medical records to assure proper billing, comparison of CPT and ICD-10 codes to the physician’s documentation to substantiate the level of coding.
9. “Scrubs” claims prior to submission and provides clinical staff with suggestions for additional documentation or alternate coding requirements.
10. Maintains 95% accuracy while meeting all productivity standards, complete encounter review within 2 business of receipt.
11. Answers incoming billing phone calls as needed, and addresses patient concerns and assists patients with conflict and problem resolution.
12. Works rejected unresolved claims issues and reports trends to the Director of Billing (Claims Rejection Report).
13. Responsible for printing hardcopy claims.
14. Provides guidance and support to the leadership team in regard to billing, coding, and/or provider documentation/coding concerns.
15. Participate in continuous education and training on coding standards and practices
16. Performs other necessary duties as required by the Director of Billing to meet the needs of the care team in the delivery of primary healthcare services.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Status as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) is required.
2. High school diploma or equivalent.
3. Medical Office setting experience is required.
4. FQHC billing experience is preferred.
5. Sufficient experience and skills necessary to perform the duties of this position.
6. Working knowledge of MS Office products and computers and the ability and willingness to learn.
7. Working knowledge for office equipment, i.e. scanners, printers, copy machines, telephone system, fax and credit card machine.
8. Excellent oral and written communication skills and customer service skills.
9. Ability to relate with warmth and effectiveness to the staff, patients and providers of Southern Dominion Health System, Inc
