What are the responsibilities and job description for the Communications Intern – Summer 2025 position at Southern Environmental Law Center?
The Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC) is accepting applications for a Communications Intern for Summer 2025. This intern will work closely with our program communications team assisting with day-to-day needs including writing social media and website content, event planning and coordination, and media coordination. The intern will work with SELC’s Senior Communications Manager based in Charlottesville to execute communications plans and storytelling efforts showcasing intersections between organizational initiatives and programs.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly successful, nationally recognized organization that is effectively addressing some of the most pressing and challenging environmental issues throughout the South and the nation. This intern will work in our Charlottesville, Virginia, office with some opportunity for remote work. This is a 10 to 12-week, part-time, paid internship.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Draft social content and coordinate approvals.
- Draft other materials such as website articles and press materials.
- Monitor earned media.
- Assist in coordinating projects using Monday.com.
- Assist with in-person and virtual outreach and engagement efforts.
- Assist with day-to-day administrative needs.
Qualifications:
- Strong writing and editing skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively and communicate clearly verbally and in-writing.
- Demonstrated experience working independently. Ability to self-manage tasks to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to receive and implement feedback and provide constructive feedback.
- Demonstrated interest in environmental communications.
- Demonstrated interest in urban planning, environmental justice, or transportation.
- Experience with project management systems and content management systems.

Internship Information:
- Duration: 10-12 weeks
- Hours: 16-24 hours per week
- Eligibility: Active student opportunity only (not a post-graduate internship)
- Timeframe: Summer 2025 (approximately mid-May through mid-August)
- Compensation: $16.00/hour
