What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ophthalmic Technician/Scribe position at Southern Eye Institute?
NATURE OF DUTIES: The nature of the duties is to assist the physicians by providing direct patient care in areas of patient mobility, ophthalmic testing, and general support. Performs technical duties to assist the patients through ophthalmic testing in maintenance of healthcare delivery standards. Treats patients in a caring warm professional manner. Cooperates with all team leaders and co-workers.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
1. Proficient with Nextgen, navigating Nextgen (task inbox, schedule), obtaining patient history (intake and history tab), patient plan and chart note, assessment tab, 3 sections of provider tab (external, slit lamp, & fundus), send RX (Escribe, phone, or fax), print schedule, and set up appointments.
2. Check vision, check IOP and pupils, refract, read glasses, and check pachymetry.
3. BAT, color vision, stereopsis, Lotmar, ON OCT, Macular OCT, Optos, topography, stereo disk photos, and perform dilation.
4. Provides laser procedure assistance (SLT, YAG, Argon) and other minor procedure assistance. Assist with minor surgeries (surgery room).
5. Coordinate specialist appointments with Lydia in billing.
6. Provide patients with education on procedures or various eye conditions.
7. Completes weekly stocking of supplies in exam lanes and cleans patient lanes weekly which includes wiping down counter tops, equipment, and chairs.
8. Assist with answering phone calls, call patients with test results, obtain prior authorizations for medication, consult physician for medication refills, complete referral letters.
9. Function as a team member by assisting with all needed office duties, greet patients, assist in Optical Department.
10. Performs other related duties as assigned and serves in whatever other capacity deemed necessary for successful completion of the mission and goals of SEI and in concordance with its mission statement. 11. Make copies as needed, take out trash and close exam lanes (cover & uncover).
12. Knowledge of abbreviations, familiarized with cataract implant cards, anatomy, and diseases.
13. Assist with surgery scheduling, contact PCP to coordinate pre-op clearance, perform pre-surgery eye measurements and calculate readings, forward chart to physician to determine IOL power.
14. Assist in staffing other clinics and departments when needed.
15. Assist with IVFA and VEP.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $22,880.00 - $27,040.00 per year
