What are the responsibilities and job description for the Insurance Attorney position at Southern Farm Bureau Casualty Insurance Company?
This is an entry-level position that will be responsible for identifying , analyzing, and providing legal opinions and advice on insurance related issues, Agent matters, privacy, regulatory matters, Flood, and Underwriting that have an impact on SFBCIC and related insurance companies in the six states. Manage Agent, class action, and insurance related litigation filed against Southern Farm Bureau and related insurance companies in the six states. Furnish legal advice and recommendations to SFBCIC and related companies to safeguard the Company while resolving legal issues that arise. Furnish legal advice and recommendations to SFBCIC and related companies in the development of insurance policy forms and other insurance documents for all authorized personal and commercial lines of business.
Essential Functions
Identify, analyze, and provide legal opinions and advice on issues related to insurance coverage, bad faith exposure, tort liability, and other issues related to insurer-insured relationship for Southern Farm Bureau and related insurance companies in the six states in connection with a specific claim or claims.
Manage defense of lawsuits filed against Southern Farm Bureau and related insurance companies in the six states involving Agents, class actions, and other insurance related matters.
Keep track of legislation, regulations, and case law impacting property and casualty insurers in the six states. Advise Company personnel of important/relevant developments when and where they arise.
Assist in review and development of insurance policy forms and other related documents.
Identify, analyze, and provide legal opinion on insurance related issues such as underwriting issues, regulatory issues, Agent issues, etc., that have an impact on Southern Farm Bureau and/or any of related insurance companies in the six states.
Make presentations on insurance related topics to management level employees, Adjusters, Underwriters, and others.
Make training presentations on insurance matters to upper management, Claims Managers, and Adjusters when requested.
Analyze, organize, and solve complex legal issues, factual situations, and problems under short time frames. Read, analyze, and digest large volume of information and data and prepare, as appropriate, legal memorandums, contracts, and/or opinions relating thereto.
Provide advice regarding independent contractors/employee relationships including tax issues, drafting of contracts etc.
Negotiate, review and draft contracts.
Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) risk ownership responsibilities to be conducted as assigned.
Experience
Required- Less than 5 year(s): Legal experience
- Background in insurance law & other insurance related legal experience a plus.
Licenses & Certifications
Required- Juris Doctorate in Law
