What are the responsibilities and job description for the Copywriter 2 position at Southern Graphic Systems?
This in a client-facing role on site at Walmart in Bentonville, AR; requires 3–5 years experience and will work on selected Walmart General Merchandise Private Brand categories.
Role Responsibilities
- Work closely with Project Managers and Designers to ensure all necessary required input for creating copy are received; this includes: Walmart-created creative briefs, national brand equivalent samples, die lines/spec sheets, Walmart reference art (where existing) and brand style guides
- Establish clearly defined creative direction with Walmart business partners to ensure copy is consistent and meets all brand standards and legal requirements
- Maintain private brand identities and consistent messaging across all General Merchandise categories
- Create effective, best-quality content for production, including: research, copywriting, proofreading, regulatory/legal responsibilities, review and approval of files
- Annotate vendor-supplied PDFs with precise technical claims and copy required for items to be placed into artwork by Production Designers
- Where necessary, write persuasive, accurate product copy that endorses brand attributes while capturing unique product features of individual items living within a larger brand
- Comply with all SGS and Walmart policies, procedures and applicable regulations
- Assist in any additional responsibilities as directed by SGS or Walmart management. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. You may be required to perform other reasonably related business duties.
Role within SGS/Walmart Workflow
- Attend packaging kickoff meetings with Walmart design and merchandising team (business partners) and receive inputs required to being work on planogram items
- Work with Proofing and Regulatory during creation of copy sheets/annotated PDFs for accuracy; at this point send any questions raised by Regulatory to Project Manager (PM) for vendor response
- Route completed copy sheets/annotated PDFs to assigned Production Designer, and work together to alter copy if artwork dictates revision (space issues, etc.)
- Review preliminary artwork before showing business partners
- Update copy sheets/annotated PDFs to reflect necessary changes driven by vendor or business partners and alert Production Designer of changes made
- Review PDFs for approval (this sometimes happens in several rounds)
Experience and/or Educational Requirements
- Basic understanding of the packaging, printing and prepress process
- Degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Marketing or related field is preferred
- Excellent writing, proofreading and editing experience required; packaging experience and understanding of brand management preferred
- Thoroughness and attention to detail is essential
- Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with a wide range of contributors
Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The U.S. pay range for this position is $45,292 - $56,615 annually plus bonus eligibility. Ultimately, in determining pay, we will consider the successful candidate’s location, experience, and other job-related factors.
