GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Under general direction of the Director, supervises and instructs subordinate personnel; does related work as required. Supervises and instructs the SIRCOMM dispatch floor operations and personnel. Expected to serve as Acting Director as authorized by the current Director or Joint Powers Board.
DISTINGUISING CHARACTERISTIC OF THE CLASS:
Responsible to the Director for the day to day operations of SIRCOMM. Prepares dispatch personnel to ensure adequate staffing and arrange for shift coverage both scheduled and unscheduled/emergency; Has the authority to discipline subordinate personnel up to and including recommending suspension or termination, which must be approved by the Director.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: The following tasks are typical for this position. The Deputy Director may not perform all of these tasks and/or may perform similar tasks not listed here. This list of duties is illustrative and used to provide examples only:
- Supervise day to day operations of shift supervisors and dispatch staff;
- Responsible for overseeing dispatcher scheduling including time off requests, scheduled vacations, shift trades, sick time and emergency coverage;
- Instruct all dispatch staff in SIRCOMM policy and operating procedures;
- Responsible for overseeing all dispatcher training including new hires and SIRCOMM trainers. This also includes creating new training procedures as needed, with the possibility of hosting onsite training for other agencies;
- Oversee the SIRCOMM ILETS TAC team to ensure all aspects of this position are being followed according to BCI, CJIS, FBI, and ILETS policies;
- Meet on a regular basis with shift supervisors;
- Assist the Administrative Assistant in providing needed supplies for the dispatch floor;
- May be expected to be competent in working all dispatch positions;
- Clearly communicate orally and in writing to all subordinate personnel, the Director, and the Joint Powers Board;
- Maintain all records and reports relative to the dispatch floor;
- Serve as Custodian of Records;
- Approve or deny all time keeping records whether written or electronic for dispatch personnel and provide these to the Director for payroll processing;
- Report to the Director any item that needs fixed or updated;
- Use the SIRCOMM email system to communicate with all employees;
- Maintain the SIRCOMM Quality Assurance (QA) and Professional Development Plan (PDP) programs;
- Assist Director with preparations for and attendance to Joint Powers Board meetings; Attend meetings and/or perform other appropriate duties as assigned by the Director.

Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
