- Position Summary: SIH Healthcare Internship is a paid per diem employment opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students interested in healthcare. Responsibilities
- Job Roles: Healthcare Interns are assigned to work in either our clinics or the hospital setting. They fill various roles including Clinical Care Aids, Patient Sitters, Patient Care Techs, Receptionists, Transporters, and Healthcare Student Workers. Potential duties include:
- Room patients, obtain vital signs and document patient's chart
- Schedule appointments
- Answer, document phone calls and route to appropriate staff
- Check patients in and out of clinic
- Sterilize instruments & use autoclave
- Suture/staple removal & dressing changes
- Call patients and document in their chart normal lab/imaging result
- Assemble, deliver & retrieve patient meals in the hospital
- Keep work areas adequately stocked with food, condiments, beverages and service ware
- Transport patients within the hospital
- Supervise and provide compassionate care to patients who are at risk for hurting themselves
- Provide emotional support and companionship to patients
- Assist with bathing, oral care, bed/linen changes, and set independent patients up for bathing
- Assist patients with ordering meals
- Assist with passing trays and ice water to patients
- Answer phones and call lights & get info to the correct member of the care team
- Deliver warm blankets to patients
- Stock linens
- Assist with room set up for admissions and clean rooms at discharge
- Round on patients and escalate needs to appropriate team member
- Point of care testing and transporting specimens to lab
Qualifications
Education• Enrolled in a college clinical program in a healthcare field. Examples would include Nursing, Imaging, Respiratory Therapy, Medical Lab Tech, Surgical Tech, Pre-Med, Social Work, etc.Licenses and Certification• N/AExperience and Skills• Caring and kind• Cheerful and friendly• Willing to be hands-on with patients• Willing to do personal care tasks (washing, toileting, etc.)• Able to follow instructions and procedures• Able to work in a team but use their own initiate.• Strong communication skills, including listening.• Organizational skills.
