Position Summary
- An experienced professional is sought to lead and innovate in the planning, coordination, and evaluation of training opportunities for EMS personnel in rural areas; ensuring a robust response to substance use disorders (SUD) and co-occurring disorders (COD) in crisis. The position is contingent upon grant funding.

Education
- Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Education, Workforce Development, Health Administration, or related field.
- Alternate: Significant EMS or Workforce Education experience (minimum 10 years) in lieu of a degree.
Licenses and Certification
- Required: Valid Illinois Emergency Medical Response License (or ability to obtain).
- Preferred: Basic Life Support Instructor certification.
- Willingness to attend National Association of EMS Educator Level 1 Course.
- Valid Illinois Driver’s License with a satisfactory record.
Role Specific Responsibilities

Training Development and Enhancement:
- Expand training opportunities for license maintenance, targeting active, certified EMS personnel.
- Collaborate with regional educational institutions and EMS agencies to develop EMS certification and continuing education programs.

Workforce Development:
- Develop a sustainable talent pipeline for ongoing recruitment and retention of EMS personnel.
- Engage with local high schools and community colleges to promote EMS careers.

Behavioral Health Training Collaboration:
- Partner with mental health professionals to develop training in Psychological First Aid and Critical Incident Stress Debriefings.
- Integrate mental and substance use disorder training within EMS curricula.

Just Culture Advocacy:
- Promote just culture principles within EMS practices.
- Facilitate a learning and accountability culture across EMS agencies.

Data Management and Reporting:
- Manage data collection, entry, and analysis related to EMS training and performance.
- Coordinate with community partners for data integration and prepare reports.

Operational Support for RHCC:
- Provide support during planned and unplanned events, including emergency/disaster response.
- Assist in developing and implementing emergency management strategies.

Alzheimer's and Dementia Care Education:
- Develop and implement training modules for EMS personnel on Alzheimer's and dementia care.
- Ensure all EMS staff are knowledgeable in recognizing and responding to patients with cognitive impairments.

Patient Interviewing and Behavioral Health Identification:
- Train EMS staff in effective patient interviewing techniques to identify behavioral health issues.
- Educate on recognizing signs of mental health and substance use disorders during patient interactions.

Opioid Overdose Reversal Techniques:
- Instruct EMS personnel in opioid overdose reversal methods, including the use of Naloxone.
- Ensure understanding of best practices for responding to opioid-related emergencies.

Encouraging Entry into the EMS Education Pipeline:
- Develop strategies and initiatives to motivate individuals, especially youth, to enter the EMS education pipeline.
- Collaborate with schools, community organizations, and healthcare facilities to raise awareness about EMS career opportunities and pathways.
