Position Summary
- The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Coordinator coordinates all activities of the SANE program including the development, implementation and evaluation of the SANE program, recruitment, hiring and orientation of applicants. Research and update curriculum ensuring current practice meeting legislative requirements for the state of Illinois. Responsible for improving the quality of care received by victims of violent crimes through direct and indirect patient care, professional and public education, consultation, development of standards and protocols, interdisciplinary collaboration, and research.

Education
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing
- Master degree in Nursing preferred.
Licenses and Certification
- Licensed Illinois Registered Nurse.
- BLS
- Completed the Illinois Attorney General 40 hour SANE didactic training and has completed or is actively working toward the required SANE clinical component completion. Must also complete SANE-P within 18 months
Experience and Skills
- Technical Experience: At least 5 years of clinical experience
- Supervisor/leadership Experience: Preferred
Roles and Responsibilites
- Maintains supplies and equipment as needed to conduct forensic examinations.
- Collaborate with designated sexual assault physicians ensuring the provision of efficient, quality, cost-effective care.
- Provides on boarding orientation and system training to new SANE candidates and provides continuing education to SANE pool and emergency department staff regarding sexual assault care and forensic nursing.
- Plan, coordinate and evaluate SANE educational programs for nursing staff.
- Monitor physician and nurse compliance with the educational requirements of the SANE program.
- Monitors the SANE team’s availability and compliance with policies and standards.
- Ensures Policy and Procedure is updated and maintained to be in compliance with state law.
- Works collaboratively with leadership of various departments to ensure sexual assault victims receive compassionate and trauma informed care utilizing evidence based and best practice modalities.
- Testifies as needed and assists personnel in preparing for courtroom proceedings as a potential expert witness.
- Coordinates and participates in peer review for sexual assault care cases.
- Provides debriefing and counseling referrals for staff post case as needed.
- Works within the community to educate on sexual assault care and the SANE program and violence prevention.
- Develop and implement strategies for communication, education, and feedback for EMS systems, Department of Children and family Services, Abuse and Neglect program and Women’s Center in catchment area.
- Establishes good relationship with community resource personnel.
- Serve as a resource for the hospital staff regarding sexual assault cases.
Compensation (Commensurate with experience):
