The School of Aviation in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is seeking qualified applicants for one 12-month fiscal, term, non-tenure track appointment within the Aviation Flight program, beginning July 1, 2025. Applications are continually evaluated, with the first review beginning March 1, 2025. A comprehensive benefit package including health insurance, retirement options and tuition waiver is provided. This position is proposed as a 12-month Faculty position with a minimum salary of $7,000 per month, commensurate with experience.
Examples of Duties
Assists the Director with academic, administrative and fiscal matters for the Flight program; teach one aviation course per semester; coordinate and administer undergraduate instructional curriculum to enhance learning outcomes; ensure faculty excellence through effective recruitment, retention, and evaluation of personnel; assist in preparing, with faculty input, annual workload assignments and merit evaluations; maintain effective recruitment, retention, and degree completion rates of students enrolled in flight program; promote alumni relations; conduct business and activities in compliance with applicable law and policies of SIU; provide direct supervision of the FAR Part 145 repair station, line service, flight operations, FAA testing center, and executive transportation units. Oversee and evaluate and direct the airworthiness of light raining aircraft including planning for and coordinating aircraft purchase and equipment upgrades. Receive and review safety recommendations from the Aviation Flight Safety Officer in accordance with SMS; supervise and evaluate the Part 141 Chief Flight instructor. To engage in professional service activities related to aviation flight. To participate in program, school, college, and university service activities. To engage in duties as assigned by the School Director.
Qualifications
- Earned masters degree
- 5 years aviation management experience
- Flight Instructor certificate with ASEL, AMEL, and IA ratings
- Experience in a university flight training provider.
- Meet the qualifications of 14 CFR 141.36 (b), (c), and/or (d)
- Documented experience in position requiring employee oversight in the aviation industry.
