Split position - 75% Administrative Professional, Director of BioLaunch Core Instrumentation research lab; 25% Faculty, Assistant Professor of Practice in the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Sciences.
The target salary offer for this position is $79,650.00 annually. Final salary offer will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints.
Examples of Duties
- Assist in the recruitment and hiring of personnel in support of BIOLAUNCH Core Instrumentation.
- Supervise personnel running samples and maintaining instruments in the BIOLAUNCH.
- Identify professional development and training opportunities related to the BIOLAUNCH Core Instrumentation personnel.
- Ensure safe operation of the BIOLAUNCH Core instrumentation and maintain safety training records for personnel.
- Provide ongoing feedback on personnel performance and conduct annual performance evaluations.
- Coordinate and participate in preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of the BIOLAUNCH Core instrumentation.
- Communicate information regarding the BIOLAUNCH Core instrument needs to the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR)
- Collect information necessary to track and bill samples run on the BIOLAUNCH Core instrumentation.
- Order laboratory supplies and consumables needed for the operation of the BIOLAUNCH Core instruments, maintaining records necessary for proper documentation and accounting.
- Maintain state EPA and OSHA safety standards related to chemical storage and the disposal of hazardous chemical waste and keep appropriate records including current chemical inventory and safety data sheets.
- Support BIOLAUNCH project development involving core instrumentation, as appropriate.
- Set the scientific direction and the operational priorities for the Mass Spectrometry Core.
- Oversee/direct collaborative projects within the Mass Spectrometry Core including advising instrument selection, research methodologies, and method development.
- Provide instruction and mentorship to on-campus Mass Spectrometry Core users concerning sample preparation and the operation of mass spectrometry instrumentation, as appropriate.
- Provide research support for grant funded projects and assist faculty and students to obtain and interpret data for grant proposals and manuscripts.
- Engage in BIOLAUNCH outreach and support regional economic development.
- Schedule educational tours of BIOLAUNCH as requested.
- Participate in proposal development and submission.
- Prepare technical reports and give presentations, as needed.
- Arrange opportunities for student training.
- Other duties as assigned.
Remaining 0.25 FTE will be NTT Assistant Professor of Practice - Chemistry & Biochemistry overseeing three lecture and laboratory courses (one course per semester).
- provide support for undergraduate courses involving mass spectrometry.
- advise, as needed, on the repair and replacement of instruments in teaching laboratories.
Qualifications
- PhD level education, with at least 10 years of experience in an academic/research setting.
- Demonstrated hands-on proficiency with MALDI Time-of-Flight and Electrospray Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry for small molecule and protein analysis, Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry for small molecule analysis, Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry for trace metal analysis, and Stable Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry for C, N, H, and O analysis.
- At least 5 years experience in instrument maintenance and repair across multiple instrument platforms.
- At least 5 years experience working with and supervising staff, graduate, and/or undergraduate students.
- Demonstrated expertise in tracking and billing analyses and other activities performed in a university research laboratory setting.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal, management, and mentorship skills.
- Demonstrated participation in developing and submitting funding proposals, technical reports, and research papers.
- Excellent analytical (qualitative and quantitative), time management, and writing skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD level education in Analytical Chemistry is preferred.
