Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIU) invites nominations and applications for the Director of the University Honor Program (UHP). This administrative/professional appointment reports to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. This is a full-time, 9-month position during the academic year with the summer FTE to be negotiated with the successful applicant. This leadership role is an opportunity for a dynamic, creative individual to guide a well-established program to further growth and prominence.
The University Honors Program (UHP) is a university-wide undergraduate program that models the intellectual excitement and individualized attention within a comprehensive research university. It is designed to serve high achieving students with an ambition to contribute to society. This position is internal to SIU Carbondale.
The target salary offer for this position is $86,400.00 annually for the 9-month appointment. Final salary offer will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints.
Examples of Duties
- Provide leadership in the recruitment, retention, mentoring, advisement, and placement of students in the UHP.
- Provide active leadership in support of the University’s core diversity and inclusion missions.
- Review, assess, and oversee the UHP curriculum and coordinate the instruction of UHP courses with faculty and chairs/directors across campus.
- Review regularly the UHP requirements, policy, and procedures with the UHP Advisory Council (made up of one faculty member from each undergraduate college, appointed for a two-year term by the dean of each college).
- Teach two different courses per academic year in the Honors Program.
- Evaluate independent study projects for UHP credit, including senior honors theses, departmental honors theses, and individual study projects.
- Serve as chief financial officer of the UHP.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Applicants must be a tenured associate professor or full professor in an academic unit at SIU Carbondale.
- Applicants must have experience in curricular or program development.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to the University’s diversity and inclusion missions.
- Ability to develop and sustain productive collegial relationships and to articulate effectively the program’s mission to students, faculty, alumni, external funding agencies, and other decision-making bodies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary collaboration in teaching, research, and/or program development.
