Description

The Project Success Program is a comprehensive after-school enrichment and child care initiative designed to support children ages 5-14 in protective custody, referred by the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). The Program Instructor will develop and implement academic enrichment activities, focusing on reading, language, and math, aligned with wellness learning standards. The role involves providing tutoring, remedial instruction, and supporting the social-emotional development of children in a safe, nurturing environment. The Program Instructor will also assist with other program activities, including arts and crafts, recreational activities, and field trips, while ensuring effective communication with parents, caseworkers, and other program staff.

Key Responsibilities:Academic Instruction:

  • Develop and implement reading, language, and math programs that align with grade-level standards and wellness learning goals.
  • Provide remedial instruction to children in need of additional academic support, helping them stay on track with schoolwork.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies to enhance learning and engage children in meaningful, developmentally appropriate activities.
  • Tutor students in their classwork and help reinforce classroom lessons.

Program Development and Support:

  • Assist with the planning and delivery of program activities such as arts and crafts, recreational games, and other enrichment activities that promote creativity and teamwork.
  • Participate in organizing and supervising field trips, providing students with opportunities for experiential learning.
  • Support wellness and social-emotional development programs to help children build resilience and coping skills.

Safety and Supervision:

  • Monitor and ensure the safety of children at all times during program activities, including transportation to and from the program.
  • Assist with securing and maintaining program files and documentation as required for day-to-day operations.
  • Oversee participant behavior and report any behavior concerns to parents and/or caseworkers as appropriate.
  • Enforce program policies regarding discipline, attendance, and student progress, providing timely feedback to parents and caseworkers.

Communication and Liaison:

  • Act as a liaison between parents, caseworkers, and program staff to ensure effective communication and support for each child’s well-being.
  • Document and maintain accurate records, including attendance, parent communication, and meal records.
  • Identify student needs and concerns, providing timely reports and recommendations to parents and/or caseworkers as necessary.

Administrative Support:

  • Assist with the collection, organization, and management of necessary program files and materials.
  • Support the Program Director with the smooth day-to-day operation of the program and perform other administrative duties as assigned.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education
  • A valid Illinois Teacher License in Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle School, and/or Special Education is preferred
  • Experience preferred in developing/implementing a remedial reading and mathematics curriculum
  • Interest and/or experience in work with educationally disadvantaged students
  • Must be willing to submit to a background and drug test in accordance with the Illinois Child Care Act of July 15, 1992
  • Must meet and be willing to comply with the Department of Children and Family Services Day Care Licensing requirements for school-aged children

Additional Information: This position does not offer work authorization sponsorship. International students at SIUE on F-1 or J-1 visas are not eligible for full-time or part-time civil service positions with permanent status. F-1 and J-1 visa holders must be enrolled full-time and can only apply for temporary part-time roles working 20 hours or less per week during spring and fall semesters, such as student worker positions, assistantships, and civil service extra help roles. SIUE is a state university, and it's important to highlight that benefits from state-sponsored plans may not be accessible to individuals on F1 or J1 visas.
