Overview
The Summer Art Camp Assistant in the Art and Design department at SIUE will support the teacher in their assigned classroom by assisting with various tasks related to art instruction and student engagement. The assistant will help students with their projects, provide guidance, and offer demonstrations as needed. This role requires a passion for working with children, a creative mindset, and the ability to assist in a dynamic, hands-on learning environment.
The Art and Design department at SIUE is fully invested in both teaching and creative scholarship, actively exhibiting and lecturing regionally and nationally. With undergraduate art degrees in studio, art history and art education, and graduate degrees in art therapy and studio, SIUE Art and Design holds ACATE (Accreditation Council for Art Therapy Education) and NASAD (National Association of Schools of Art and Design) accreditations, ensuring our curriculum meets national standards for teaching art and following safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the teacher in delivering art lessons and managing classroom activities.
- Support students individually or in groups, offering guidance on projects and techniques.
- Provide demonstrations of art techniques and assist with setup and cleanup.
- Foster a positive, encouraging environment to help students express their creativity.
- Ensure students follow safety guidelines and classroom rules.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher or camp coordinator.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
- Has completed or is working towards a bachelor’s degree in Art Education or in a related field.
- Shows communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
