Description
Southern Illinois University Carbondale is an NCAA Division I member of the Missouri Valley and Missouri Valley Football Conferences. We are currently seeking to hire an Assistant Athletic Trainer.
The target salary offer for this position is $4000.00 to $4167.00 monthly, the full pay range for this position is $48,000 to $50,004.00 Annually. Final salary offer will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints.
Examples of Duties
Assist in the delivery of athletic training services by designing and administering injury management and treatment programs, injury recognition and evaluation, development and supervision of injury prevention programs, and supervision of injury rehabilitation programs based on individual assessment. Guarantees proper immediate care and prompt appropriate medical referrals to minimize the consequences of athletic injuries, identifies susceptible individuals, injury recovery and restoration to pre-injury physical and performance level.
Assist in the administration of pre-participation physical exams by assisting physician in assessing pre-participation physical and health screening parameters for student-athletes on all teams. Guarantees that individual can safely participate in intercollegiate athletics.
Secure appropriate medical referrals by coordinating appointments with medical physicians to guarantee the athlete obtains proper and timely medical evaluations.
Assist with budget and inventory to provide an on-going assessment of supplies to assure proper inventory and supplies for daily needs and to stay within budget.
Maintain accurate medical records on injuries and illnesses of student-athletes and comply with confidentiality issues on the health and treatment status of student-athletes.
Assist with insurance information processing at the departmental level by collecting and disseminating insurance information between student health insurance, student-athletes, parents, and providers.
Provide athletic training coverage of athletic events and practice / conditioning activities. Assist with scheduling to ensure coverage as appropriate at practice and home and / or away events to ensure care for injured athletes and availability of supplies and emergency equipment.
Inform coaches of restrictions or limitations of student-athletes due to injury or illness by communicating with coaches and student-athletes on the need for rest or rehabilitation by keeping open lines of communication to assure their assistance and ensure compliance.
Assist with the departmental Drug and Alcohol Education and Testing Program by acting as department liaison for wellness services by assisting with the education, wellness, and physical testing components of the departmental program. Provide / present information concerning topics such as sports nutrition, alcohol and drug use, stress management, etc. Set up wellness counseling when necessary to guarantee organized execution of the drug- testing procedures and appropriate follow-up results. Educate coaches and student-athletes so they can make proper informed decisions towards whole-life choices.
Ensuring all events and practices are adequately covered. Ensuring all athletes receive treatment in a timely manner. Diagnosing injuries correctly.
Working with a variety of coaches, student-athletes, and medical professionals.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications : Bachelor's Degree by date of hire, National Athletic Trainer Association-Board of Certification (NATA-BOC) and Illinois Athletic Training License (or eligible), CPR and AED certified.
Preferred Qualifications : One (1) year supervisory experience as an Athletic Trainer at the collegiate level.
