The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is dedicated to enhancing service delivery, fostering innovation, and ensuring operational effectiveness for its constituency. OIT is seeking to fill a position for an IT Technical Associate II - System Administrator III on the Unified Communication team, a part of Enterprise Systems unit in the Office of Information Technology. Enterprise Systems is comprised of four teams focused on systems and services related to the public cloud, on-premises storage and virtual infrastructure, web systems, and unified communications.
Campus telecommunications is in the final stages of the evolution from a traditional telephony environment to a unified communications infrastructure that includes Microsoft 365 Teams VOIP using on-premises AudioCodes infrastructure. This position will be a technical subject matter expert tasked with supporting the adoption and continuing support of this unified communication platform.
This OIT position will directly support Microsoft 365 Teams and related unified communications functionality and Data Center infrastructure. This is in direct support of IMAGiNE 2030 Sustainability Objective
Examples of Duties
Under the direction of the Team Lead - Unified Communications, this position is a technical subject matter expert primarily responsible for the operation and administration unified communication technologies including Microsoft 365 Teams electronic messaging, Audio codes infrastructure, calendaring, teleconferencing, voicemail, fax and VOIP. Server System Administration support for Teams VOIP, several direct routed Telecom server appliances, and virtual fax.
- Provide level 2 and 3 support and subject matter expertise for complex problems.
- Work, communicate and provide service as a member of a team, OIT, and the Campus.
- Isolates and resolves telecommunications hardware, computer hardware, operating system and applications problems to insure that services are functionally stable and meeting performance objectives.
- Provides support (primary or secondary) for unified communication related software
- Initiate and coordinate change management for application, OS- and hardware-layer changes.
- Participate in duties outside of normal business hours for planned and unplanned service disruptions and other issues.
- Communicate during service disruptions, projects, and troubleshooting efforts through a variety of settings including meetings with team peers, OIT co-workers, non-OIT customers and vendors.
- Provide advanced technical expertise and advice to the team lead and / or Director for making decisions for implementing technologies for campus wide initiatives and issues.
- Provide monitoring and support for core Data Center related services and needs.
- Document in a timely manner : procedures for related services, change management requests, firewall requests for firewall changes, projects, scripts and other administrative requirements (timesheet, absence form, evaluation, RWA, inventory, etc.).
- Provide guidance and training to junior system administrators, student employees, and extra help staff on key tasks and all core technologies.
- Remote work is an option for this position with supervisor approval, with employees in good standing.
Qualifications
College course work which includes Information Systems Technologies (IST), Information Technology (IT), Computer Science (CS), Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), or a closely related discipline, including coursework in system administration, information systems and / or computing / storage infrastructure, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent :
30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
Microsoft Teams or similar VOIP, conferencing and, voicemail expertise.

Illinois Residency Requirement : Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, out-of-state candidates must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the start date for this position.
