Job Summary
The Commission Accounting Analyst is responsible for overseeing the commission accounting process, including reviewing and reconciling commission payments, resolving discrepancies, and ensuring the accurate and timely processing of financial transactions. This role requires strong communication and problem-solving skills to interact with insurance companies and agents regarding commission issues. The successful candidate will also play a key role in supporting commission accounting operations, coaching other team members, and assisting in developing efficient procedures. This is a critical position within the accounting team, designed to ensure smooth commission processing while upholding high standards of accuracy and service.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Review new policies from incoming commission statements and input data into the Agency Management System to generate outgoing commission advances and earnings to agents.
- Reconcile incoming commission payments to expected schedules and identify and resolve any discrepancies.
- Communicate (both written and verbal) with insurance companies to resolve various commission-related issues, such as missing or incorrect payments, policy and agent statuses, and other issues affecting commissions.
- Generate commission payment reports from the Agency Management System (for both incoming carrier payments and outgoing agent payments).
- Handle commission statement scanning, filing, and related administrative tasks.
- Manage incoming and outgoing calls and emails from agents concerning commission issues.
- Ensure that excellent service is provided to agents in a timely and professional manner.
- Assist in developing and refining procedures to ensure efficient and effective commission accounting operations.
- Perform complex financial transactions with accuracy and efficiency.
- Balance account statements by identifying issues and resolving financial discrepancies.
- Conduct weekly quality oversight activities for individuals and carriers.
- Lead, support, and coach other Commission Accounting Associates.
- Provide backup support to the Commission Accounting Manager and other Commission Accounting Analysts when needed.
Primary Skills & Requirements:
- Proficient computer skills, with excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office products, especially Excel.
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate strong organizational skills.
- Strong leadership and coaching skills, with the ability to lead a team effectively.
- Proven problem-solving ability, especially when dealing with complex issues.
- Strong communication skills at all organizational levels, both verbal and written.
- High level of proficiency in calculating figures such as commission premiums and percentages.
- Ability to work independently with a high degree of accuracy in a fast-paced work environment.
- Experience with system testing and documentation of new processes is a plus.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, supporting company goals and co-workers.
- Insurance industry experience is preferred but not required.
- Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, Accounting, or a related field.
